Is this card compatible?

Im building my first computer today. I do have experience fixing computers but have never built one from scratch

I bought a
AMD x6 1090t black edition CPU
MSI 890FXA-GD65 motherboard
4gb DDR3 Patriot Division 2 viper extreme 12800 x4 =16gb. Ram
Thermaltake black widow tr2rx 850w PSU
WD 500 gb sata hard drive

And I'm trying to use my
ATI Radeon sapphire 1950gt video card

The computer turns on. All the fans start up but no video signal! No sound? No beeps from the bios. Nothing!
I cleared the CMOS and still nothing. I tried only using 2 sticks of ram and still nothing!
Is this card compatible with my system?
I removed everything and put it back together and still nothing!

As you can physically insert your ATI 1950GT into a PCIe slot (the topmost one, ie closest to the CPU) of your motherboard, I do not see any other incompatibility with your motherboard other than the PCIe vs AGP issue.

Having said this, have you plugged the ATX 8-pin power connector from the PSU to the mobo? (see red circle in pic below).

have you connected the power to it from the power supply?

Yes I did but it was lose that was the problem there is also a 6 pin connector is that supposed to be power in from PSU or power out to graphics card?

Can I over clock my graphics card? I have catalyst control center but I'm not sure what I should set it at or how to increase

Your motherboard takes an 8pin power (as seen in that picture). So that HAS to be connected to even get it to power on. Same with the 24pin ATX connector.

Your GPU likely takes a 6pin, or maybe 2x 6pins. There IS another 8 pin cable for graphics card use, but I don't think your card needs it. And it physically WILL NOT fit on the motherboard anyway.

Yes, yes you can. That's the joy of it. You can overclock anything with a clock rate pretty much.

To overclock an ATI GPU:
  • Turn overclocking on in CCC.
  • Increase clock (core first) slowly
  • Test stability using Furmark or other (watching the temperature, don't pass 95*C)
  • Rinse and repeat...raise clock again, test stability again. Testing should be ~30 minutes.
  • Once you start artifacting (seeing weird colors), back it back down.
  • Now, you can move onto the memory. Do the same process with memory.

Yes.

Connect a 6-pin PCIe connector from your PSU to the graphics card. See the red circle in pic 1 below.

In addition, as your mobo is a 'high-end' category, you can also connect another 6-pin PCIe power to the mobo for supply further power to the graphics subsystem. This is needed if your graphics subsystem involves overclocking high-end cards like HD6990. But your Sapphire X1950GT should be ok without this. See pic 2 below.

Ok great Thanks for the help guys I'm probably gonna get a new graphics card though. Even though this one has never given me any problems I think I should upgrade to something new since my whole setup is practically new. I just bought a 120gb SSD drive to run the os I'm excited to see what this bad boy can do
