24" + 30" + 24" monitor setup?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I currently have 2x dell e248wfp 24" monitors. they are a few years old but work perfectly however i was thinking about upgrading to a U3011 30" monitor.

Am i able to run the 30" monitor in the middle of a 3 screen setup and have it as the main screen for when im gaming etc? i also do alot of 3D cad/animating work so id like to try and keep the extra screens if possible (if not ill just bit the bullet and get 2 on them and run 2x30" u3011)

Cheers for ur input

Yes, that's fine. I run a 24" 1920x1200 in the center and 2 23" 1080p monitors on the side. I have some issues in surround unfortunately, but I think eyefinity is a bit more forgiving

You can run them in extended desktop mode, like any other screen combination, but not in eyefinity mode.

While I am not quite as familiar with eyefinity, to the best of my knowledge he can absolutely run them in eyefinity. Why couldn't he?

They will all set to the same resolution (limited by the 24" monitors) and it would look horrible.

Technically he can do eyefinity, but it's just not worth it to even try it. It's horrible with that mixed of a setup.

Eh, I'd still try it. I can't imagine the u3011 looks THAT bad at 1920x1200. He asked if the setup would work, and it would. Even if it isn't the BEST setup, there's still nothing keeping him from trying it

edit: Either way it sounds like he is more concerned with gaming on only the center monitor anyway, and just extending the desktop on the other 2. So no matter what, yes he can definitely do that and it would work great. I still say try out eyefinity for gaming though if you get the monitor!!

The size difference is the biggest issue. That's why it would look like crap. It wouldn't even be decent. It'd be crap to play eyefinty on that. Extended desktop, still fine though.

so in extended desktop and eyefinity id only be able to use 1900x1200 on all screens?
or on extended desktop would i be able to set the screens independently?

Do you think id be better off just selling my current screens and get 3 brand new ips 24" screens?

Extended desktop: Allows for any combination of resolutions and refresh rates

Eyefinity: All must be the same resolution and refresh rate

Just stay with your current setup. Don't let go of that 30"
