Phenom II 720BE is tripping , or is it?

Hello!
My new phenom is acting weird. I just raised the cpu multipler to 16x to have it run at 3,2 GHz and it runs it stable with 1.25V (default not raised)
However when I run windows , it heats up to about 48°C on IDLE!
And because of it , the cooler runs insanely fast at about 6k RPM .. I mean the noise it produces is insane , my whole desk is vibrating because of it's rotation!
What's the problem? Could it be that I didn't seat the cooler correctly? Or is this the normal for phenom II ?

Hello,

First of all, I think fans fun at 2k RPM max. I think. tongue.gif

Anways, What cooler are you using? I noticed you don't have any on you SIG.
If you are using the stock cooler, you SHOULD NOT OVERCLOCK! Stock coolers can't cool enough for OC'ed CPUs to stay on low temps. You should upgrade you cooler to something like this.I think its really good for the price.. There are some air coolers cheaper and a bit better. But I don't remeber those :/ Sorry.

Anywys. I think its your stock heatsinker. If you are currently using it.

I think it is a stock cooler , because it has no brand on it . And yeah it runs 6k RPM! Its so loud :S
I only overclocked it without raising voltage so it shouldnt heat right?

Well, it does not work that way. Voltage helps rise your Mhz, but the Mhz are the ones that produce the heat. if you rise your speed heat will rise even if your voltage hasnt been rise...

Yea, you better get an aftermarket Cooler.

Allright , but untill I get another cooler (if i even do that) is there a way to manually control the fan? Maybe via bios if not via windows?

Your mobo's manual says that you can use "Easy Tune" for fan speed adjustment. You BIOS can only disable your current setting --> fan will run @ full speed
