Check the task manager for any processes eating up your cpu time. I recently updated some Intel chipset drivers and it had installed some service called rapid storage and it was eating up cpu cycles like no ones business.

Are you using process lasso to keep the cpu and gpu away from each other?

Get some of that and use it to lock your GPU to one of the threads on your hottest core and run the -smp 7 and lock it to the other 7 threads. Put everything on the thread with the gpu for that matter.
