I would stay with the one you picked-its a great psu.

Saveings can only be a good thing to a point-but saveings cant replace quality.

Yeah, this has been super-helpful in finalizing the component choices, and I was surprised a how many people responded and how quickly they did respond, because i started this thread just earlier today, and you guys have helped me so much! This forum really is great though and I'll be sticking around!

He could run his machine off a quality 400w PSU. And he'd save nearly $70 by doing so.

Just because its cheaper and less wattage doesn't mean its not quality.

Great rig. Try for a 6950 2gb version only because those are the ones that can unlock to a 6970. If budget allows, get a cheaper psu and hexa core phenom. 750watts is overkill for a single gpu solution. 500-600w sounds about right.

What do you think about this hexacore http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-849-_-Product and this psu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 (which is only $30 less, but that covers most of the $50 difference between the x6 and the x4)
but know that I am planning to crossfire sooner than later, so I might want to keep that psu.....

Dude i will say it again-as befor, i know this-about the psu and power-and i beleive he does too, choices are good for anyone in any matter., and as far as my last statement its all it was, just that. but if you want me to say it i will-i would not buy an xfx, i had one, and i know others that have, and i have yet to read manny reveiws, that class them as great quality psu,s. but again your right he could-but why if he doesnt want too-

in 1 of 5 sytems in my house i have a antec true power 420 that is almost 5 years old running my 720be/asus system. ya it works, but it pushing the limits.

i,m not disagreeing with you.

If you're looking at a hexacore CPU, then ditch AMD completely. I love AMD to pieces and back. But the i5 2500k + even a budget P67 board will go a LOT further than anything AMD has to offer.

For the record, I just recently switched off an AMD quad rig to my i5. And with my i5 at bone stock, its a night and day difference compared to my AMD @ 3.8GHz.

EDIT:
And I would also personally steer clear of XFX at all costs regardless. It's a solid PSU (full Seasonic design), but with XFX's customer service lately, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I will look into the i5 by getting all the components together and looking at price range and performance..I'll have it done tommorow, but the i5 is also a lot more than the x6. $40-50 more. also the changing intel sockets make me leery of buying a long-run system from them, because it will be a lot of mobo upgrades.

You're already looking at a lower end AM3 board anyway. There's a good chance you'd have to upgrade it to get a good overclock on a Bulldozer chip in 2 months.

I'd rather see you get the most bang for your buck NOW, so you DON'T have to upgrade in a few months. And right now, that spot is Sandy Bridge.

Just my 2 cents. Keep in mind, I do love AMD to pieces. But they just don't have it right now, if you're looking at the x6. The i5 2500k will eat the x6 1090 and 1100 alive...at stock.
