Atom N450 vs AMD V105: Netbook

Looking to get a netbook for my mother. Basic use. Check email, news, Skype and some video streaming.

Which of these would be the better choice or should I go for a dual-core netbook?

Was looking at these two:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220853

If dual core - Atom N550

The N550 is the lowest you want to have if you're using windows. Though I'm wondering why you haven't considered the C-50 APU from AMD? It is about on par with the N550 in CPU performance I think and much better graphically because it can actually do HD video playback. The E-350 and it's successor the E-360 (iirc) however are the best of the "netbook" lines.

+1 for the guys above me...right now, you can't beat AMD's dual core netbook Zacate processors.

I see thanks. I'm not well versed in Netbooks or their processors wink.gif

So a C-50 would be the way to go.

Only one that's on Newegg. Has a max of 1GB Ram though? Guess that's a no-go. N550 there's a bunch more to choose from but I'll wait and see if another C-50 gets stocked. Or maybe I'll just go for a lower-end laptop as size isn't much of a factor as it's just a basic home laptop.

Rather than the getting a netbook with a C-50 processor, I'd suggest you get a netbook that has the C-350 processor (e.g. HP DM1z). The C-50 only runs at 1GHz whilst the C-350 runs at 1.60GHz and is so much better for the money as it is only slightly more expensive than that of the netbooks with C-50 processors.

Zacate based netbooks use the same 6310M graphics anyway so your sure that it'll play 1080p with no problems.

What's a C-350? You mean E-350 right?

Atom(single core) based netbooks are beginning to become old technology. Unless it is SOLELY for single tab web surfing, you are better off with the ASUS 1215B/HP dm1z/Lenovo x120e. They all use the AMD E-350 APU which a lot of people in this thread mentioned. It can multitask fairly well for an ultraportable and can play 720p/1080p smoothly. They can also take up the 8 GB ram!
