=)

from what iv heard , everyone keeps saying the shader unlock provides hardly no performance increase ?

your saying 9% , which may be true .. if i flicked my bios switch back to stock i will lose a few fps for sure ..

anyways goodluck with the ur tfIII , nice card . Have you tried flashing 6970 bios yet ?

9% increase , cumon =p

LOL

Well ..
divide 1536/1408=1.09091
So actually a 9.1% increase IN RAW PROCESSING POWER...
Really ... there' a lot of other stuff that contributes to the FPS ... bandwidth . ROPs.. TPUs .. load of stuf.. Anyway .. a 9% improvement at the same clocks can't be ignored.. se the thread in my sig!!

It's like this : overclocking your cpu 10% will NOT reult in a 10% 1:1 ratio increase in CPU benchmarks ...

Now you know what I'm talking about ..

It's easier to overclock a locked card as compared to an unlocked card.. but what I'll say here is that a 900 core clock unlocked should equate to a 950 clock locked.. so might as well unlock the card..

Clepto tried the 6970 BIOS .. but I'm not sure its the Lightening bios ..cause that has a similar board layout , save the extra phases and all..

That BIOS is available in the 2nd post in the thread in my sig (* again * ) lol !!

Have fun with the card!

I have tried:

custom BIOS
'unlock' BIOS
6970 BIOS
6970 Lightning BIOS

..only the 'unlock' BIOS produced a functional GPU..none unlocked the additional shaders. I tested performance before/after too, as I have heard of cases where the GPU unlocks, but is not detectable/shown as unlocked..

As soon as I get my bench rig going again, and pickup a full dewar.. I will test this GPU with my 930, both at similar clocks to the 665k & 660 I have tested with..and at max clocks. I do still plan on seeing how the GPU freezes as well

FREEZE IT !! DO IT !! ( am obsessed ) NOW!!

Why aren't you a mod yet ?? I'm fascinated, if not bewitched/allured by your mods

Keep the great stuff going!!

was a mod here previously ..just dont tout it

*as for freezing.. prepare for bitter-sweetness there is only a slim-to-impossible chance that this GPU will even tolerate temps 1 degree south of -0c ..as most 6xxx GPU's will artifact and crap out immediately on going sub-zero. Only a few lucky folks have had samples that will even run into the negatives.. and we are talking like- they are hitting the speeds I am running now.. using LN to hold the GPU at -8c... again, any colder and it poops

That said, Im not expecting "greatness"...just hoping for something 'good' This GPU would be 2nd fastest on HWBot now, if I submitted on water... but I would like to see +1150mhz with LN if possible.

My 6790 loves low ambient temps(like 22c).I was able to finish 3Dmark 06 & 11 @ 1060MHz core with stock voltage,which I believe is around 1.12v.Great work man!.

CL3P20: What are the details of your custom fan profile?

Also, why do you need to do hw voltage mods? Doesn't MSI's tool allow overvolting?

I used MSI Afterburner to adjust the fan temp curve.. setting a constant speed of 35%..and ramping up to 100% @ 55c.

The hw mods i performed are in preparation for higher GPUv than software allows and -0 testing.
