Recommendation for 2.0 Speakers, no sub.

My brother lives in a condo, and his neighbors are... I'm guessing overly sensitive. He had a regular stereo set, but is wanting to switch up for two decent speakers for the once-in-a-while that he'll connect his laptop for music around the house. The only real requirement is that it has a 3.5mm input. Otherwise, it can be "computer" speakers or the home audio type. He didn't give me a budget, but I would say definitely under $100; if Best Buy carries it, limit can be $150.

I was going to have him just take my Klipsch Promedias, but the subwoofer would go to waste. He listens to all kind of stuff, but likes house and music with focus on treble, but a bit of bass from the speakers is welcome. Ideas? Thanks.

One of my rigs has a set of sony bookshelf speakers with a two channel sherwood receiver, it sounds quite nice for the small amount of money I put into it. I also used to have a set of Polk Monitor 40 speakers and those were some of the best sounding speakers I have ever owned, so for him the monitor 30 series would fit into his price range.

Thanks for the input. I don't think any bookshelf speakers will work; as I said in the OP, he needs a 3.5mm input.

I would have to recommend audioengine, based on personal experience. I love my a2's with a passion, and they are perfect for my needs. They are very small, powerful speakers. The a5's however, are even better. Much better balanced and cleaner bass. However, they also cost more and are much bigger.

I know the concept is intimidating, but there are things called adapters. Such as 3.5mm to RCA.

Thats why I mentioned a receiver, it's not like he would be plugging the 3.5mm straight into a speaker.
