Not getting expected speeds out of my new SSD :(

I am pretty much a newbie with SSD's so I am hoping you guys might be able to help me out a little bit. Here is the situation. I just bought a new SSD. Crucial M4, accoring to some benchmarking sites the ideal speeds are:

450 MB/s - Write
300 MB/s - Read

I have tested and ran HD Tune utility and am getting in the mid 100's for both read and write. I am downloading other utilities right now to test but if this is accurate and these are my speeds is there anything you guys can think of that I am doing wrong?

Just tested with sisoftware benchmark and around he same speeds in the 120's now for read... bummer.

I am using my sig rig and realize that I have SATA II so I am not going to be getting the added speeds of SATA III but it jusr seems like something is not right here?

Even if you were utilizing a SATA 'II' port, you should be getting ~260-265 MB/sec.

Have you switched the mode of your controller from IDE to AHCI in BIOS?

Keep in mind if you still need to do this and you have already installed Windows, you may need to follow the outlined procedure, documented here:

So it turns out after researching a little bit that the 750i ftw does not support ACHI.... I looked for it in my BIOS before I installed windows did not see it so assumed it may have already been in ACHI mode... apparently not.

Looks like I will be upgrading my mobo. Now my questions is when I reload windows what utility should I use to format this SSD? Can I just use the Windows installer to format the drive without a performance hit?

The drive supports TRIM and has garbage collection, a complete secure erase really isn't needed.

I just bought and am about to go pickup the Asus P8P67 pro and a 2500k with some RAM. When I pop this drive in I will need to reload Windows. Is the best way just a format through the Windows Installer?
