Pulling the trigger on new CPU?

Thread Starter
Okay i have about 300$ finally to do this no strings attached. My sig rig is up to date and i need some advice from you awesome people.
Phenom x4 upgrade?
Triple core?
Ram upgrade possibly?
Graphics card?

I read that AMD's dropping prices on their cpu's, so i figured this might be the perfect time.
Or
Should i go with something else?
Thanks in advanced

A 955 or 965 quad will be a nice upgrade.

And get a new/better cooler.

Going from dual to quad core will give you a nice performance boost in multitasking.

^This. With the rest of the money saved, get yourself some games to enjoy, or save towards a new rig by the end of the year.

Edit: fix the fan on your GPU. Oh, and if you really want to spend the rest of the money, get yourself an SSD to act as a boot drive. Something like 60GB-80GB will do and has nice prices now.

Edit 2: Get the Phenom II X4 965. Newegg is selling them for the same price as the 955. Well, it is actually ONE dollar more expensive LOL.

Get the cheapest Athlon II quad you can find, and you will still have enough left for a nice GPU upgrade.

I saw a 635 on sale on the egg for $80 with promo code: EMCYTZT443 (Deal expires tonight at midnight)

Then get an HD 6870 of your choice

That would result in an unbalanced system. The Athlons lack L3 cache and coupled with a more powerful GPU like the HD6870 it would be a bottleneck.

You're better off buying the Phenom II X4 965. If you feel you need a better GPU, leave that for later, when new GPU's get released later this year. If you buy a weak CPU to replace the one you have now, you won't be seeing any benefits from any GPU better than yours.

Okay so i did see the 965 is the same price as the other one for some reason gonna buy it in 10 mins, which aftermarket cooler should i get? obviously the hyper 212+ is super effective but kinda want it shooting out the back of the case. Also curious about the install process.

Got any proof to back that up? I'm running a GTX 460 1GB with an Athlon II 620 with no bottleneck in my 2nd rig. Besides, your wait for new hardware theory is bass-ackwards anyway, since CPU's are refreshing much sooner than GPU's this year. proof and more proof
