BFBC2 Crashing - Anyone fixed it? - Page 2

It might be a problem for ATI users? I notice most people who've never experienced a crash-to-desktop with BC2 have a Nvidia card.
Did you update PB to the most recent version (5/5/2011)

Some users report that after the update, it doesn't crash anymore. For me however it still crashes, so I'm reinstalling the game right now
post #13 of 42
Mine used to have that problem as well. Then I lowered my sound quality to 16bit 48000Hz (2channel) and it hasn't done it since. 0_o Hadn't known that sound could crash a game until then.

I never experienced difficulty with afterburner/gpu-z running at the same time.

Only time I had CTD's like that were when my over clock was unstable. Little voltage boost to the cpu did the trick in my specific scenario.

It's weird.
Indeed, pretty much my experience as well. Sometimes I don't get crashes for a long time as if the problem is fixed. At other times, I end up crashing twice or something similar. It's very random!

Aha, I definitely have as I installed Punkbuster only yesterday. I've just checked for Punkbuster updates as well and I'm completely up to date.

Been there, done that, unfortunately. I used to use BFBC2 as a good indication of overclock stability but I learned a long time ago that BFBC2 is its own special case as it crashes whether or not the overclock is stable. Prime95 and extensive use of my computer has proved to me that it's perfectly stable the way it is, except BFBC2 seems to be counter-productive to that conclusion. No other game or program has any problems, including intensive 3ds Max rendering and Prime95 stress testing.

I must admit that's interesting. I always keep my sound card on "PCM 192 kHz" so I might try "PCM 48 kHz" as a last resort to fixing this issue. It's definitely something that I have/use that my friends do not. That narrows it down to overclocking and its software (MSI Afterburner, GPU-Z, etc) and my sound card.

A bit of an after-thought on this. It's an interesting proposition to back down the audio sample rate from "PCM 192 kHz" to "PCM 48 kHz" because at the end of the day, every single such CTD I experience, ends up looping sound on the desktop, from when the game crashed. As I mentioned, a reboot fixes this but the audio remaining "stuck" seems to somehow point to an audio related issue.

I will definitely try "PCM 48 kHz" sample rate and see how it works out in comparison to "PCM 192 kHz". If it fixes the problem, I'll be a bit disappointed too because there is definitely an audible difference in audio quality between these two settings and BFBC2 having the amazing sound engine it does, lowering the audio quality would annoy me very much.

It's 02:11 here and I have to wake up at 07:45 later so I think I'm off to bed, haha. I'll probably try it out tomorrow. Part of me wants it to keep crashing because of the lower audio quality being unacceptable to me but yeah...worth a try!

Ok, I've just quickly tried to check the audible audio quality difference between "PCM 192 kHz" and "PCM 48 kHz" in BFBC2 and there is none in-game. I'd therefore be content to have to switch to "PCM 48 kHz" to keep BFBC2 from crashing. Having said that, I've not tested this for anywhere near long enough (just 5 minutes) to be able to conclude this is a viable fix. I will thoroughly test tomorrow and will report back.
