GTX465 - ASUS Reference - Can I flash the BIOS?

Thread Starter
I have a copy of ASUS' own '465 Upgrade' flash tool but it would not let me flash it (not sure why). However, I was wondering if I could try to flash the card to a different BIOS as see if it unlocks extra cores (using the right software/ROMs). I've read reports that even if the memory chips are missing (which mine are) that the chip is still probably a dumbed down 470.

Thoughts? Input? Links?

I'm just curious to tweak/flash....

I was also curious to know if I could get better hardware fan management if I setup profiles/fan speed via BIOS tweaking since I have issues with software fan control (Afterburner).

Ones with the 8 chips have a totally different GPU, if you flash it you are going to end up bricking the card.

The first 465s came with a certain bios which specified that its a 465 without the cut of the cores.
Laster 465s came with a cut core and a bit newer bios.

If you try to force a flash on a 465 with the cores cut out, you will brick the card. This can be fixed but requires another card (any card).

You can check the list of bios and try to find a correct bios and use nvflash (start the computer in dos/win98 dos).

Hey if that unlocking tool is a small file, any chance you could zip it and attach it to your OP? Been looking for that bad boy for awhile

Unfortunately, if that tool doesn't work, then I'm 99% sure a bios flash won't either. That tool not working is a sure sign that you have a 030-revision core and not the 275-revision core (the one from the 470) that unlocks. Combine that symptom w/only having 8 memory chips, and the picture painted is that you have a 'real 465', not a 470 with a 465 disguise. Sorry, man.

You could try flashing w/a 470 bios, just be prepared to possibly brick it and need to install another card so you can see what you're doing while you flash it back.

I was looking for it last night and I now cannot find it! I will keep searching until I do. The moment I do I'll send it to you.

Thanks everyone for the input, appreciated.

Are you looking for that Asus' unlock/upgrade file for 465 to 470?

I am not sure if this is the one but you can check it out.

Or if you're a PRO... just blind flash it!
