GPU Downclocks while running furmark

Thread Starter
My 450 downclocks to 405 core, 810 shader, and 324 Memory. in less than a minute of running furmark.

Temperatures are good.

EDIT: Also won't go up again if i run furmark again, it's stuck until i restart.

It's not even overheating, it's around 60c for the few seconds.

EDIT: This only happens if it try Core: 910Mhz, but this does not happen at Core: 900Mhz

It's a features called Overcurrent Protection, refered to as OCP

Basically Nvidia put that in place to stop people blowing up their VRM's. It's not to do with heat. Its because of the power draw while using Furmark, if it wasn't there. There is a good chance people would kill their cards in a matter of minutes of running Furmark and other extreme stress test software.

So back down the overclock and voltage, otherwise OCP will continue to kick in

EDIT: Re-read OP, sounds like an unstable overclock. Increase volts or put the core clock back to get stability

It's normal. It's called OCP (Overcurrent Protection), and was introduced with fermi cards. It's there at a hardware level, but the drivers specifically recognize furmark and lower the threshold for it being triggered.

Only happening with the increased clocks is just because that's how that happens.

This problem has nothing to do with OCP. This is due to an unstable overclock. If your clocks fail while Furmarking it up, then it'll default to low 3D or 2D clocks. And you'll be absolutely stuck there.

Only fix is to restart your machine, and lower the clocks until it passes.

This is actually you just STARTING to become unstable. Artifacting won't happen (usually) until you're a little higher and failing.

Ayt, i'm using MSI Afterburner. and the voltage now at stock is "1075" In what increments should i increase them?

Increase voltage just enough to be stable. Any more, you'll introduce extra heat that's not needed. Any less, and it'll crash.

So use voltage sparingly. Just bump it a notch or two at a time until it passes.

Yes, exactly. And with a voltage bump, you can try a little more clock speed too.

Increase the voltage one notch at a time. So the next level is 1088mv IIRC

Try that first, the next after that will be 1100mv

Try that first, the next after that will be 1100mv
It's only letting me to 1087mV.

And also i'm going to bump up the clock speeds to 910Mhz..

And one last thing, my card is a reference design, so that means 3+1 Phase Power.
