Ram limit on motherboard? Please help

Hey guys Im thinking of upgrading my ram from 2gb to 4gb for obvious reasons but I read that my mobo's max is 2gb, What does that max mean and would it be bad to run 4gb,. If I get 2x 2gb ram at the same speed and ram type (DDR2) would it work on my pc? I would love to know because I dont really want to buy a new mobo! thanks guys

You could put 4 gigs in it, but it would only see 2. I had the same problem with my last motherboard (crappy old ASRock). I had to get a new motherboard to use all of my RAM.

Unfortunately, that board WILL only support up to 2GB of memory. You could try buying a 4GB kit, but it'll be very unlikely that it'll work.

And buying a new motherboard for such an old CPU will be hard too. You're looking at new board, CPU, and memory honestly....or a used AM2 board somewhere, plus the DDR2.

If you could possibly post up a total budget that you've got, we might be able to find something that's even better. You'd be surprised what the budget builders of OCN are capable of finding on sale. I'm thinking Sempron 140 or Athlon II x2 250, cheap but solid board, and some generic DDR3 to hold you over. We need to know the total budget though.

If you DO want to pick between the 2 that you've listed, the Biostar is going to be the better board. The TSeries boards were famous for overclocking in their day.

And if you get a new motherboard you will need to reinstall your OS, yes. If you have a Retail version, then you're fine. If you have an OEM / System Builder's version then you're supposed to buy a new license (it will still activate anyway though).
