IBT VS Prime95 - Page 2

Intel Burn Test and Linx mostly tests to see if you are using enough CPU voltage. Prime95's blend test is useful for testing to make sure that the Dram Voltage and the CPU VTT Voltage are correct. My opinion stands that you should test at least 20 rounds with IBT or linx with the latest binaries and at least 8hrs with Prime95's blend test.

BTW here is a link to Linx with the updated binaries :

Second. Prime95 (in my experiences) covers what IBT fails to catch. However, If your not having any problems folding or gaming, then you should be fine. Normal application shouldn't stress your hardware as much as prime95 and programs of that calibre.

there is no game or apps that can stress these computers like ibt or prime. if its stable with ibt your fine.

for the record, I'm at 1.45v on a 2600k with HT off (as I don't use any HT programs) That voltage did seem high in comparison to others. Mind you I do not think that my chip is "golden", perhaps it is bronze, or a less valuable metal.

Thanks for all the reply's, fantastic information for me.

why would you spend the extra $ for a 2600k if your not going to use it.
should of got the 2500k then and spend the extra $ for a ssd.

Just make sure you're using the latest Linpack with IBT or LinX. You can download it here: http://software.intel.com/en-us/arti...pack-download/. I have a link my my sig for LinX repacked with latest Linpack already. Also, make sure you're using Win 7 SP1. These 2 things will ensure IBT/LinX is using the AVX instruction set.

If I can complete 50 passes of IBT/LinX w/AVX using 75% ram then I can complete 12H of Prime95 blend. I've tested this over 3 CPU's and 2 motherboards. Be aware that using AVX can raise your temps 10-15C. I personally have only seen <5C of an increase.

Your results may vary.

I don't think it's gamers that are worried about doing 12-24hours of Prime95, it's the folders.

@valtopps: I'm just testing what this chip will do without HT on, already have an SSD.
@compudaze: Once using the new linpack(?) my bus speed in CPU-z will ocationally show 256x100 for a whopping 25GHZ core speed, reporting error? Or things failling?
@eggs2see: I was thinking that myself.

Reporting error I would imagine. If it failed you would get a calculation error from the software or most likely BSOD.

As I suspected. If only it was 25 GHZ
