6 Channel Fan controller Question

Thread Starter
I am in the middle of my build here http://www.overclock.net/intel-build...k-suicide.html .

I bought a Rheosmart 6 fan controller and have a question for ya folks. It's rated for 30W per channel.... Great .... But I would ideally like to use each channel for a zone.

Zone 1 - Quad Rad 1 x 8 Fans
Zone 2 - Quad Rad 2 x 8 Fans
Zone 3 - Quad Rad 3 x 8 Fans
Zone 4 - Front Intake Fans x 4
Zone 5 - Front Intake Fans x 3
Zone 6 - Bottom Intake Fans x 4

Issue is this. Controller is rated for 30W/Channel . My fans are 4.2W each and on the radiators there are 8 in push /pull . 4.2W x 8 Fans = 33.6W

Is this safe to run 3.6W over the rated amount for 3 channels?

Any suggestions or comments on this setup or wiring ? Should I increase the wire gauge ?

If the 4.2w is start up wattage for the fans you will be fine. If they are rated to run 4.2w continuous, you may run into problems.

Thanks for the reply.

The fans dont specify if its startup or continuous

This review seems to hint that it would be OK lol

If you want to be extra safe about it make sure air is moving over the heat sinks on it.

Question Part 2

So here is the deal :

3 Radiators each with 8 fans each.
They all use 3 pin connectors.

What I would like to wire them up in parallel for each radiator.

If i wire the fans pin 1 -> 1, 2 -> 2 , 3 -> 3 and then each cluster of pins to a single pin on the 3 pin master feed line.

What gauge wire should I use for the feed since it will be supplying 33.6W and 2.8A to the bank of fans , the stock wire is well... stock and quite thin Im unsure if it will overload and heat it up.?

My goal is to eliminate all sorts of bridges and adapters and have a clean set of sleeved wires into a single line -> PSU 12v Molex.

Also I would like to try to see if my fan controller can handle the load since its only rated at 30W/channel. This way its a quick and easy way to try one and if I see the Rheobus can handle it and if not ... quick and easy plug directly into PSU w/o rat tails of wires
