Problem with 5870 and Starcraft II?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
I've been having problems with Starcraft II crashing lately, and I've looked online, and I seem to not be the only one having troubles with this. Starcraft II seems to be the only game that it happens in, but I simply can't figure out why. I've completely deleted the drivers and updated, but it still happens. I'm very confused lol. It tends to happen in battles, specifically when I'm using Medivacs haha. My screen will freeze, and sometimes it will just stick there. It usually freezes two or three times before becoming completely useless.
Thanks.

My PC freezing up during game, mostly, it seems. Usually it will happen once, my screen will freeze, and then I'll be fine for another few minutes. Sometimes I get a gray screen and then it resumes. Once this happens for a second or third time, my PC becomes unusable and I have to restart using my Reset button.

Are you running any sort of OC on the card? My old 5850 used to grey screen when my OC was unstable. Usually it would attempt driver recovery, but more often than not it would fail and I had to hard reset.
If you are playing SC2 with your sig rig, it may be caused to the CPU because SC2 is a intensive CPU game. I don't think the GPU is the issue, because I've played with a 275, a 5850 and a 6970 and had no problems.

Anyway, try installing the latest AMD drivers and see if the issues stop.

Starcraft II is HIGHLY sensitive to CPU overclocking. Try stock clocks if you are OC'd and let us know!

All of my GPU clocks are on their default speeds. I've never attempted to really overclock at all, as my GPU has always done what I needed it to just fine.

Yeah I'm playing with my sig rig. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers two or three times now, and it still happens. I'm just confused as to why my graphics drivers would be failing if my CPU is having an issue. I'm not saying it wouldn't happen because I am not knowledgeable about that kind of thing.

Everything is running stock on my rig.

Thanks for all the input so far. It's appreciated.

Oh and just a heads up. My new 2600K rig should be up and running within a few weeks. I'm in the process of RMAing my current 2600K.
