And the 8800GT is fine, the Pentium 4 will hold it back big time though. Just make sure you're picking it up under $40 or so, and you'll be fine with it. For the record, I've seen Refurbished 9800GT's going for $40 shipped off TigerDirect.
Well ... if you've got the 4GB already laying around gathering dust, there's no reason to NOT use 'em. You can still address 3.25MB with XP 32-bit, so it's not like it's totally useless to have 4GB installed.
I'd say an 8800/9800GT is a reasonable match for a Pentium 4 processor, esp. for older games that were designed around the CPU's of their era. But in some gaming scenarios it'll be BN'ed, for sure.
Heck, there's some games that a P4 just isn't going to begin to cut it, no matter what GPU you use. GTAIV and BFBC2 come immediately to mind. And I bet Crysis would be unlikely to run well on a P4 unless you play on Low (using a lower preset in Crysis seems to lower the CPU load as well as the gfx load).
