RAM Clearance

Thread Starter
Hi, I have a dark knight cooler and ripjaws and I wanted to know about RAM clearance. Are you able to fit all the sticks in all the slots without interference with the cooler??

I don't believe so. The Ripjaws are about the same height as Mushkin Frostbytes; I used to have Mushkin HP3 kits with blue-coloured Frostbytes and they did not fit directly under, however the outer two slots were free in my case so I used them there. When I intended to upgrade to 8GB RAM I replaced my HP3 with G.Skill ECOs which are lower profile.

My mobo will be a m4a89gtd pro/usb3 from asus and as you can see, the first and third slots are dual channel together as well as slots 2 and 4 together.if i would put ripjaws in the 2nd and 4th slot and a different set of gskill ram with the same speed and timings as the ripjaws in the 1st and 3rd slot because they have a very low heatsink like the ECO ( type gskill 4gbnq in google), will there be any problems in stability as well as problems with clearance with a dark knight?

You would honestly be 100x better off buying matched RAM. I'm using 4x2GB of GSkill Ripjaws with my Xigmatek S1283 without issue. First 3 slots are covered by my fans. Granted, I did use zip ties to attach the fans.

True, but you have an intel board and it might be different than with AMD

The mounting is the same, just different holes to use.

And you definitely want to keep with perfectly matched sticks of RAM, no matter the platform. They'll work easier together, less stress on the IMC, and you know exactly what they can clock to that way.

You SHOULD be. You might have to use zip ties instead of the original fan mounts. But yes it will fit if you're creative enough. Not sure if they're fit regularly as I don't have the stock mounts for mine.

Remember Dark Knights mount upward on AMD systems (by default), which means the metal of the heatsink is going to be sticking out over the RAM slots (under default mounting)
This usually makes the inner two slots inaccessible to memory of high heatspreaders
