The Dark Knight comes with a backplate for sideways mounting too though, doesn't it? I thought it was just the base S1283 that was clip on only.

Not by default, it is same situation as S1283. You can trust me for my primary cooler was once a Dark Knight. You need a custom mount from OCN's nafhjy (or recently Xigmatek started selling them on Newegg) to mount blowing to rear-fan. Newer DK variants such as the Xigmatek GAIA SD1283 come with the better mounting.

So that means he needs that super awesome mount that I bought off nafhjy for a great price huh? I can certainly vouche for that mount. I've got the actual Xiggy one right now. The one from nafhjy was a LOT better.

But are ripjaws considered to have a high heatspreader because I don'T want to buy a dark knight and during the installation, realising it doesn't fit.....which cooler would be best but not too high priced for a phenom ii x6 1090t and that fits with ripjaws?....my limit is 60$ and it has to be from eaither bestdirect, directcanada, ncix or newegg.

Where is it on Newegg? I could only find Intel mounting brackets.

Yes, I read that thread, but that was years ago (i think). Does he still make them?

Just look at the pictures of ripjaws and compare them to other RAM. You can see they are obviously large in height. Your first post states that you already bought the RAM and HS/fan, but I'm guessing that you didn't. If so, consider a Zalman (the ones w/the heatsinks around the fan). Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe those will allow ripjaws to fit.

If you PM nafhjy (I know I had to have spelled it wrong), it wouldn't hurt to ask him if he still does those custom mounts, and how much he'd charge. I've still got mine, and I LOVE it. Just waiting for another AMD board to use it on.

Ok....I just told myself that for the price of the dark knight, the crossbow mount and the shipping, I am better off getting a V8 from CM.....frostytech says it cools .4 degrees better than the xiggy but generates like 2dba more noise i think.....but in the end it'll cost me almost 20$ less. But now I have a new problem. I saw on ncix that the noctua nh d14 cooler is on special for 60$.....is it worth it to buy that instead of the v8 to push my 1090t to around 4ghz.....cuz I honestly find the noctua cooler ugly as hell!!
