What you guys think of my Silverstone FT03 build?

Hi there,

I was planning on this little machine around the Silverstone FT03. I'm really new to this any advice regarding anything would be really helpful! The main purpose of this machine would be to play all modern games at 1024x768! Yes. Small resolution.

If I need to upgrade or downgrade any component, please let me know!

Case - Silverstone FT03

Mobo - GA-880GMA-UD2H ( How good is this Mobo? USB 3.0 and 6Gb/s. Not going to overclock. Anything better for the money? )

Processor - X4 945 ( As you can see, I'm going for value for money. This quad core should be plenty enough, right? or should I upgrade? )

CPU Fan - I wasn't sure about CPU cooling. Should I invest in one? 212+ or Asetek 510LC or TX3 . I can get these pretty cheap 510LC being the cheapest.

Memory - Any 4GB DDR3 1333 or 1600

Graphics - GTX 460? Now I have no idea about this one. What GPU would I need to play all the games now and for a while to come at 1024x768? 6670? 6750? I would like something newer/new technology rather than getting something older.

PSU - Again? No idea? Any suggestions?

Hard drive - Any 500GB 6Gb/s one.

DVD/CD

I'm going to look around for prices and see how much it would cost me.

What you guys think? Any suggestions?
On another note, if there are any builders who would like to do this for me, that would be great. This is going to be a gift and wouldn't really want to experiment and mess things up. I don't know the options. You could buy all the components, do it and ship it to me. I can pay for everything and for your time. I'm in Vancouver, WA or Portland, OR.

Thank you

Well,

I'd probably go with the Phenom X2 tbh. something like the GTX550. or the GTX460 whichever is cheaper.

Something like a 450w PSU will be enough, a good quality though.

Yea, get a Phenom II X2. You can try unlocking to a quad-core, but if you're just gaming, the dual core should be fine anyway. Motherboard wise then I'm not sure which motherboards are best for unlocking.

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Just picked out something random.

If newer technology you like, then get the 550 Ti.
EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti $147.99

The psu comps listed should be great too.

Hard drive wise, you could probably get away with a 500GB caviar blue if you wanted to stay cheap. Or maybe a samsung F3 while you can still get them.

Generally, what is your budget? And your friend is seriously missing out by gaming on such a small resolution. Maybe consider getting him a better monitor in the bundle?

Thanks for the reply guys! For gaming at 1024x768, does it matter if it's a GTS 450 or GTX 460? I'm thinking there wouldn't be any difference in performance?

Thank you

I'd say just spend a bit more on the GTX 460, since eventually games will come out that require more graphics horsepower. Even though on that resolution there should be nothing that the GTX 460 can't handle, it's best to have a little extra.
