I understand how it works and their goals in theory. I've watched the project grow since around 2005 when I built my first rig Standford's GPGPU research is pretty cutting edge but folding proteins is not the way.

There is far more achievable and cleaner technolgies to cure disease such as Scalar Frequency.

Isnt the project more focused on distributing the computing power of determining the folding pattern of a protein, which is rather difficult, to idle computers.

I don't fully understand your point of view.
This is just like at stress test. If your overclock wasn't stable at these temps 24/7 before you started your WU/folding, then your overclock isn't 100% reliable.
65C isn't going to blow up your CPU. It's getting close to maximum but it's not near it yet. As long as you are below 72C then you are good.

You are never stressing your computer at 100% core load ? If you don't, you'll never know when your overclock might result on a BSoD.

Edit: Btw ... Haven't you given that CPU pretty much voltage for 4,8GHz ? No wonder it gets hot.
My Pc is 100% Prime Stable i had Prime running all weakend when i went Camping,Thats not my point. My point is on this pc i would never run Prime95 for a year straight or any really really long period of time. The thing that worries me is right now my Cpu gets a break when i am not using it then it downclocks and runs cool.Same with Gpu's ect.I know 65c is not high for running prime ect but i dont want to run them temps 24/7 on this rig.I would much rather slap together some Pc that didnt cost me an arm and a leg.It took me Years to get the initial money up to build a high end pc and i have just benn sellling them and upgrading as time went on.If i was rich i wouldnt care but if this thing blew up there is no way i could replace it financially.

I only just learned of Folding and from all the videos ect i watched on it people were just running it on laptops ect.I thought folding just meant a little app that ran in the background or maby something i could put one of my old pc's to work doing.I had no idea in the world is was like a non stop stress test.Maby i had it setup wrong or something but running 2 brand new high end Gpu's and a brand new Cpu all the time at stress levels just isnt going to work for me Sorry i really wanted to fold but it going to have to be on one of my older pc's and ill through an old external liquid cooling system i have lying around here on it.(I think the old cooling system i have is a Thermaltake Aquarius III)

Thanks for all the help though guys it is highly appreciated.

oh and to my Voltage question when my processor kicks upto 4.8ghz my voltage reads roughly 1.48v max and temps roughly 65c to 67c max while running Prime

I see.
Well, you don't have to fold 24/7. Not at all. Perhaps just a few hours a day/one or two WU's.

Folding will get your system at 100% indeed, but you can "disable" an X amount of cores so you are only using, for instance, two cores at folding while the rest are doing something else or idling.
You can also costomise it further to only fold on one GPU.

You don't have to fold 24/7 at 100% load on everything.
However, running at 100% 24/7 will not really damage your components of any kind.

I am with you badomen. I will put it through this for the chimp challenge but I am not sure I want to keep this up 24/7 either. At least not on my main rig. Plus with all of this going in my main rig and the extra cards I put in it I am pulling quite a bit of power. My battery backup will kick off and that is with just the rig itself plugged in. Not the pump for the cooling loop or any monitors.

Yeah, same here. Whenever this CC is over, my folding is too.
At least for the time being.

While we'd love for everyone to be Folding 24/7 all year round, we understand that it's just not possible for everyone.

However, we hold a monthly 2day Folding marathon, as well as other events every few months on OCN, so even if you don't Fold constantly through the year, you can still drop by and take part for those events.

Well this changes everything then.I can still be able to help just by finishing 1 protein a day? If so i have no problems doing something like that.If i wasn't mid class income with 3 kids i would build another rig better then mine to Fold if theirs even a chance it could help cure diseases but unfortunately that's not my situation. So if i am still helping by Folding even 1 Protein a day then i am in.

Thanks Mate you made my day.I thought folding was totally out for me.

It is very normal to be protective of your PC and not want to run it 24/7 at 100%, no matter what kind of technical papers you read saying it is OK. Since you do have concerns my suggestion is to get something lower end and fold on the gpu only, I am just offering a suggestion since you have concerns with using your sig rig for folding 24/7. If I could stand the heat everything I have would be going 24/7 but first I must get my window AC unit. After I get my AC unit it is back at it full time. Perhaps it seems odd that a AC unit could be considered part of the gear needed for folding, but in my case it is. Folding wants you to give it your best hardware, but folding doesn't always get what it wants

Folding 24/7 for 3 months straight killed my Corsair TX750w (CPU SMP-3, and 2 GPU's) Now with my new Antec PSU, I only fold
a) overnight
b) with the windows open and if it is cool outside.
