6950 Unlocked & 6970 Corssfire

Thread Starter
Greetings,
Back in February I purchased an XFX 6950, the 2GB version, and was able to unlock the extra shudders, I'm looking to upgrade to a Crossfire configuration but the thing is these old unlock-able cards are no longer on sale and instead they sell a new black colored 6950. (mine is reddish)

My question is, instead of buying a 6950 can I buy a 6970 and crossfire it with my 6950 unlocked, will it work as if they were 2 6970?

Thanks for your advice.

I advice on using MSI Afterburner - the best GPU configuration utility out there - so you can set individual settings for each card.
But even if you reset the 6950 back to 6950, you won't see any performance loss with 6950 + 6970 CrossFire - it's a killer combo

If you decide on doing so, place the 6950 on top, so 6970 would have better airflow. (6970 is generally a bit warmer. Still, it's all up to the specific card)

MSI afterburn is similar to the EVGA Presicon tool I used to have to OC my old 9800GTXs. But much better, I have read the sticky thread on OCing ATI's GPUs, it helped a lot, I had never overclocked an ATI card before and it was all pretty simple.
