Overclocking help with a x6 1075T

Hey all, it is my first post here but I pretty much know what I am doing regarding what numbers to jingle and whatnot for overclocking... I just have a couple questions and hopefully clarification on what safe overclocking is.



So, I have pretty much as of now just brought up the FSB to be bring my 1075T in line with the 1100T speeds, albeit I cannot do it by the multiplier, the FSB is the closest I can get to replicating it....

So I have done that and have been running this configuration fine for a couple months at stock voltage (1.35vcore) no problem. Now I have been thinking about reaching ahead for higher speeds so I decided to stress test for a base line to work off of, but I have a couple questions.

What is a safe overclocking temperature? In the above picture you see that stressing in Prime95 I reach up to 56C but while just gaming and whatnot, I only really hit 43C... I was told that 55C is the spot you do not want to go over, but should I be worried about 55-56C while stress testing and keep that from going higher, and then gaming will just be a colder experience? Unfortunately I am running the stock HSF, and I don't plan on changing that since I am not reaching for the stars... I am wondering however, if it is safe to increase the frequency further without touching voltage if I can keep it stable? That won't increase temperatures at all, correct?

I am generally in the know about overclocking but am just looking for a little bit of clarification on a couple things... I have CnQ, C1E, and all that other BS turned off.

Also, is that amount of vdroop normal? It seems kind of excessive to be dropping 0.006v at such a stock voltage... I am on the latest bios running a Biostar TA890FXE motherboard. The last time I overclocked a processor was back when I had a Core Two Duo E6750, so I am a bit rusty at this and it is my first time running an AMD processor (I am liking it too).

I am using Dolk's guide for Phenom II's as a basis for overclocking, in case that helps.

55C is CPU temp or core temp? 62C is the absolute max.

Your CPU cooler is...?
vDroop may be normal on that motherboard, you might be able to tweak it with LLC but I'm not very knowledgable on that

No need to turn off CnQ or C1E if they work properly, I run my OC with both enabled

55-56C is my core temp while stress testing, on the stock heat-sink. I am wondering if it is safe to increase frequencies if I can manage to keep it at the stock voltage since that should keep the temperatures the same, right?

The vdroop doesn't look bad now that I looked it over again, just looking for opinions on that....

U might gain some temp, but the only way to be sure is to try with small increasments and WATCH temps when stresstesting

Go off socket temp because core temps are off on x6 cpu's.

Your probably going to need a better heatsink if you want overclock higher, so something like a 212+ would help a lot

Turn on LLC that will help with Vdroop. You've got a black edition so unless your going to increase your ram speed past 1600 mhz your best off leaving your FSB at 200 and using the multi. This will make it easier for you since you wont be adjusting anything else except for multi, vcore and a little bit of dram voltage and memory tuning.

Right now I am broke, but I will look into a better HSF in the future.

For now, I was just wondering if it is safe to increase the frequency if that stays stable at the stock voltages... When I game, it gets nowhere to the temperature that Prime95 hits, it only gets to around 42C on the core. Prime95 gets it up to levels I never see in daily use, but seeing as stress testing is the only 100% way to ensure it is stable, I would like to keep it below 55C so I am hoping that I can do that with stock voltages.

@ Yumyums: Oh, and the 1075T is not a Black Edition unfortunately. Only the 1090T and 1100T are BE's. And yep, I am looking to get my RAM from its default 1333 to 1600 eventually. Not past 1600 though. Right now it is sitting at 1466 with no problem on stability. From what I know about LLC, that turns up the voltages based on demand, which is exactly what I don't want if I can help it. I will deal with the minimal vdroop in the meantime.


I will slowly turn things up to 3.4GHz and see what happens to the temps and hopefully it stays stable at stock... Nothing above 55C will let me be happy, and then it will be time to get a better heatsink if I want to OC further.

Quick update - 3400MHz has no difference in temps.



Here's hoping that 3500MHz stays stable at stock voltage, and that the memory stays stable at another bump up from its current 1513MHz.

Sorry for the triple post...



Anyway, 3500MHz is too hot, I am going to back down the 3400MHz and test overnight for 100% stability, at a future date hopefully I will get a better heatsink and pull up the clocks, 3000 - 3400MHz on stock cooling is not half bad though!
