Need Help With Upgrade decision!

Thread Starter
Currently I have an Athlon x3 450 and Gigabyte 870A-UD3 with a HD 6850.

I have the money to upgrade the CPU to an x6 and also the graphics card to a 6950 and unlock the shaders or should i spend the money on an i5 2500k and new mobo, cpu cooler and windows 7?

I'm really stuck on this decision and would like a bit of advice. Currently i'm leaning towards the i5 as I think it would be more beneficial in the future.

Thanks in advance, Manooloo!

I think you should wait for the bulldozer benchmarks to come in first!

If you were going to upgrade right now, i would keep the 6850 and upgrade to a 2500k and new motherboard. There is nothing wrong with upgrading now or waiting. Your going to be happy with the 2500k, and overclocking to 4.5ghz is almost a guarantee.

EDIT: Please update your system so we can see what you have!

I think that Tdawg is right. I should wait and see the performance benchmarks for the new Bulldozer processors until jumping into a big decisionlike this.

My CPU just frustrates me as it can't handle Black Ops without being maxed out on the CPU Usage and it lags like a piece of ****

How exaclty is black ops lagging? The athlon x3 should be able to run that game smoothly maxed out with a 6850 at 1080p.

I suggest you move on to a better game like bad company 2. Cod games are crap on consoles but are terrible on PC

It should be able to but it can't. The framerate drops from 80 down to 30-40 whenever any action is taking place on the screen, yet it can run BC2 without many problems at all.

Then it seems your black ops problem isn't a CPU bottleneck, as BC2 is a pretty CPU intensive game, more so than black ops I believe.
