People who overpay vs. People who think they know everything.

Thread Starter
A few days ago. I started an M18X thread which almost immediately blew up into a Sager vs Alienware slug fest where people on both sides threw slanderous remarks at one of these two laptops. As a graduated Marketing student I would like to explain why so many of these so called "idiots" buy laptops such as a Macbook or an Alienware product.

I have never owned any alienware or apple computer products. But i have done a good a mount of research over the last 4-5 month while trying to chose a great laptop for myself.

So why is Alienware so expensive? what are you paying for?
I have heard of many forum members say: Brand. You are paying for the Brand Name. That is correct. But not all. These consumers are buying exclusivity. Most people, like me, on this forum build their own computers and have great knowledge on computer parts. As a result, when we purchase these computers we tend to think in terms of the market value of the parts, not the value of the laptop/computer as a whole. Just like buying anything luxurious: Lexus, Rolex, Express dress shirts and Abercrombie tshirts, if you sit down and dissect ALL the parts/materials, you will find that ALL products will cost more than the some of its parts. So why can't some people let go of the fact that a well manufactured computer is never worth more than some of its parts?

The answer is to SHOW OFF what they know. trust me. I have been there. after I constructed my first rig and learned to overclock. I looked down on every person who purchased a computer from a store instead of building one. I tell my family and friends that they over paid for this, over paid for that. oh oh oh what a douche bag i must have been. OH look at me. I can build a more powerful computer at half of the price of yours! I must let the world know that YOU over paid and I can build one cheaper.

The other thread was cleaned once by management and kept going downhill, so section staff deleted it. If you knew how bad the first one got, you should have known there was no reason to make a new one; therefore to prevent a new flame fest this one is now closed, as well.
