Is it ok to mount the power supply upside down ?

Thread Starter
I'm on the verge of ordering the Antec 300 with CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX psu but realized that the fan would be blowing down in the case.

Can I mount the psu upside down is it designed to work like that ? What way do I want the fan blowing ? If amounted upside down will the bolts line up to the holes ?

If mounted upside down is that going to be counterproductive for the case airflow ?

Should I get a psu that shoots the air to the rear of the unit ?

I'm sorry by the way I'm asking alot questions today. I'm going to be ordering the parts tonight after supper and I want to make sure I'm getting the right stuff.

thanks

Yeah it will work fine.

Only problem is it can make cable management a little more challenging

Yes, all PSUs are designed to be put in aether way around.

As long as your PSUs fan can get air it should be fine.

I don't think the Antec 300 has a vent on the bottom of the case for the PSU to get air. Would likely degrade the lifespan of your PSU if you mounted it upside down. With the PSU upright it shouldn't be too bad on your temps.

It'll be fine. The holes may not line up (I think they do on that case though) and if not, it takes 5 minutes and a drill to make some new ones. And yes, PSU's can be placed upside down and work fine. Many cases place them that way nowadays.

By looking at pics of the case it looks like there a gap about 3/4 between the psu and the floor of the case. Which way would guys mount it ? or should I get a psu thats shoots the to rear ?

i mounted my psu upside down in my 900, 3 of the four holes (enough in my opinion) matched just fine, the 4th hole wouldnt be able to drill anyways.

pictures available upon request.

I accidently had mine mounted upside down for 2-3 years. They work fine regardless but cable management does get a little bit harder.

I don't see how cable management is any different

I mean all you're prettymuch doing is changing what side the cables coming out of the thing are. (woah what, that sentence broke my brain...)

i dont know why people say the cables get harder to manage, thats why i turned mine upside down in the first place.

most cables on non modular psu's come out of the left side (farthest from the motherboard) when mounted on the bottom, like my case (900) and his case (300), so flipping it over makes it so you dont have to string the cables accross the case floor diagonaly
