I said his CPU will limit him, as it does in BC2, and I just said I have to 6970s for myself.

Either he doesn't know what he's talking about or he doesn't care. As you suggest...it's both!
Did I say for you to get a 6970 CF setup? No, I didn't.

This is a completely new engine from BFBC2. You have no way of knowing how it will run.

A 6950 should be anough, gpu-wise. & learn to be a bit more appreciative of people trying to help you imo >:

We can infer that it will be more taxing than it's console-first pseudo-predecessor, BFBC2. Right? Obviously, as we've all seen the epic trailers & heard/read about design & engine development. I believe he was saying that the CPU in question was providing a limit with a 6970 tandem in BF: BC2. It's a reasonable extrapolation to predict, under the circumstances, an even more exaggerated result would develop from similar circumstances. That is, CPU limited in old engine..will be, all things equal, further handicapped in newer engine. Or am I just misunderstanding?

Speaking in absolutes may not be best in predictive analysis, but claims such as this are made none-the-less likely from semantics.

I've nver run BF:BC2 on my own rig as I haven't been able to afford the GPu I want till recently. Now that I'm looking at being able to do so I'd like to. Everyone I've spoke to about BF2:BC has conflicting opinions.

Everyone citing 'personal experience" with Phenom X4's and 58xx say it handle BF2BC like a chump with flips to spare in the range of %40-%60 CPU usage.

If I am bottlenecked, exactly HOW bottlenecked? From what I gather BF3 will handle 'all 8 threads' of intel but what does that mean for the Phenomx6? If I do pinch and grab an x6 this fall/winter (Meaning no bulldozer till at least xmas after next) is my mobo gonna kick me in the nuts?

I'm not saying this guy is wrong. But what the f*** does it MEAN to be bottlenecked? Am I losing out on %10 or %50 of the 6950?

Yeah this rig and question is geared toward BF3. But it's not a 'what are the system req's for BF3?' thread. It's what is my best GPU upgrade? Since I can't ask 40 questions in the title of my thread I thought that was the most descriptive but the pro/cons of the boards themselves are always pretty straightforward. It's how the various boards will interface with my personal system and what that means for me in future upgrades. I'm not the sort that can drop a wad of cash on a new build. This cheap rig in my sig from last year is still makin my nuts swell!!

I guess I shoud clarify. I half know what I'm talking about. I know a small handful about computer science but what that translates to in terms of gaming preformance I really have zero experience with anything in the last ten years. My AthalonXP fried last summer when I failed to keep it clean. I passed up a used but excellent shape dirt-cheap cannondale road bike (which is my other major hobby). Now I ride a FUJI that's as old as I am and with lots of love and a few new parts it's ridable and get wicked speed. I won't be buying another speed bike because this one suits my needs and I've invested more than I could sell it for and that cannaondale is (and always was) way out of my budget. So here I am, looking to take what I have and do what I can with it.

Procs I'm familiar with. GPU's not so much and how procs stand against games is alienspeak to me.

So coming into this thread and just trashing what I with random **** that flies in the face of everything (which is litterally next to nothing) we've been told about BF3 makes you sound like you're just trollin'. Don't mean to write you off if you've got something useful to contribute but if you are I'm just not seeing it.

Well whatever you upgrade to, prepare to replace the crap PSU in your rig for something decent.

While we can all only speculate at this point about how taxing BF3 will be, I don't think your tri-core will bottleneck a 6950/even a 6970 in BF3, providing you overclock it. I strongly suggest you replace the motherboard in your rig should you decide to overclock, as I doubt your motherboard would handle a decent OC well. If you decide to get a better motherboard, you can also try unlocking your tri-core to a full quad core, as it's possible.

A new PSU is a given as I've said. This one was always meant to be handed on to the guy who's limping along on the PSU this one replaced. (For $13 based on a test & review of HEC it preforms exactly as well as I expect it to and don't mean to push it) I think this Mobo isn't ideal for OC significantly but I think it should be able to handle 3.6Ghz minimum and I'm working on 3.9. It's does 3.95 with the the BIOS 'SmartOC' stable (Mprime for 4hrs). What it doesn't do is get the RAM right at that so I'm playing with that and educating myself in the meantime. It's something I've tinkered with here and there a few times over the past year but I mean to get serious about it soon.

Because of that PSU however I haven't really wqanted to mess with OC much yet. It's only got a 4-pin for the proc anyway.

I know my guess is as good as anyone's so here's my specualtions:

$80 700w Brand PSU & 6950 w/ Twin Frozer III

Brings me in at just under my budget for the release of Battlefield.

After that I'm thinking of holding out for the 1100T when the bulldozer released which will fit nicely into this board (but probably won't OC much because of the mobo's limitations).

Whenever I can afford the next upgrade it'll be the mobo to OC the 1100 and make room for the bulldozer.

I really want the mobo to be the last thing because even though this one cheap it's still got potential to make it work and it can always hold this 720 again when that gets replaced. If I hold out long enough on the Mobo PCIE3.0 should provide me with max upgradability when it gets slapped into a good mid-range AM3+.

What's with all the pompous newer members here lately?

Chaksalami: Motive was giving you proper advice, why are you acting like a douche?

Oh, and nice power supply, tough guy - you might want to replace that.
