Best GPU Upgrade for BF3? - Page 6

If your against the Nvidia 580, which you have the right to your opinion, then please get the AMD 6970 and over clock it. As opposed to getting a AMD 6950 and unlocking it to 6970 potential. Unless you have budget constraints in which case I can fully understand trying to get the most 'bang for your buck'.

Reason being, an over clocked AMD 6970 is going to get you even better performance than an unlocked over clocked AMD 6950 card can at the end of the day, period. Purchase your PSU based on that and leave head room to run a second 6970 crossfire for some day down the road.

Love these kinda threads. Some guy asks for help and when he disagrees with anyone he gets ganged up on.

BF3 will need a top tier rig to run maxx'ed out. It will be payable on any mid range pc with an higher end gpu.

Dual core systems have trouble running BadCo, expect that to be even worse with BF3.

As noted earlier EA will not bring a game to market, especially this title, that only enthusiasts can play at better then mid settings.

Buy the best you can afford. The 6950 CF extremely well so if your set on that card you will be fine now and for the next few years.

Good luck. Please be sure to post an update with your selections so you can piss off some if these idiots, like the guy that said replace that psu, ' you tough guy ' 3 posts after you made it clear the psu was temporary.

Right, I can understand how that mistake could have been made and I don't hold it against you. If I had posted it there, I'd have been just asking for it. Your response would have been more than appropriate. As it was still a mistake, I thought I'd just give you a mild jab for in jest. Hands down as solo card single GPUs go, the 580 will easily trump ATi in the current market. The 'elitist' reference is more in reference to justifying my response rather than knocking you. Never meant that sorry if I came off as abrasive. I only meant to humor with you apparently, failed.

i'm not offended nor do think negatively at your presence. Peas!?

Well I was looking at CM 700w which I always thought was a mid-range brand and recommended by someone else but after looking at it again I realised it wasn't even 80+ certified (even though it claimed %80+ efficiency o.O red flag!)

Point well noted thanks.

Anyway, you're getting good advices...for the 720 X3, well, not a powerhouse anymore, but a good little gaming CPU I guess..
Well Bulldozers should drop the PIIX6 a bit I'm thinking. So after spending time in the game and getting a feel for just how much I'm losing out I'll head over to the market and see about a used BE thuban I might get lucky and nab for $80-100 if I find someone I'm comfortable with trading with.

I won't be getting an X4. For the difference between that and the thubans, if i shell out fo ra new proc, it'll be a hexacore or nothing at all.

If you feel like waiting a little bit, you might get the opportunity to grab a newer generation card...who knows...
Nah, I will be waiting to order no longer than a week before retail release. Enough time for my card to get here, installed and system stabilised and reasonably OC'd before it hits. If the new GPUs make the current top tiers drop in price, excellent. But they themselves will sadly be out of my foreseeable budget. Sometimes luck smiles so I will be holding out as long as possible for the best possible deal though!

Thanks a lot!

The PS3 has a ****ty CPU for whoever said it. The cells all equal maybe 1 or 2 cores. They can only do 256Kb of info at a time, lol.

The more I think about it, the more I think planning for CFX is the way to go. I don't plan on getting a 6970 because of budget constraints. However I do expect the family to enter my price range which si why I pretty set a 2Gb board in this family even if my CPU does end up bottlenecking.

I'm having a little difficulty planning a PSU. I know it's not the place to skimp but if my end game is to have two 69xx crossfire under a PIIX6BE or bulldozer (i can dream they'll release at $400!!) OC'd The one thing I do want is for this PSU to hold its weight against all that without going limp on me.

But that's bringing my immediate BF3 budget from $600-$800 (i need a win7 retail license. *pukes*)

Anyway, will this cut it with that future setup in mind: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139011

?

Incidentally does anyone know if an 'upgrade' license will work on a 32bit copy of XP I have and give me 64bit win7 with a license to upgrade parts without 'oem' restrictions??

thats why you get a reference 2gb 6950 , and flash it to a 6970 .. price / performance .

thats what i did =) though i bought mine when they first released at almost $400 .. now theyre cheap as chips , do it .

get sapphire , good reliable and they tend to unlock with no issues .

Bulldozer won't go above 2600k prices, I can say for sure. AMD has to do price comparative, which is what they do. The 8 core plans on going head to head with the 2600k, going over would kill them.

I would wait on a 69xx card. Isn't the 7xxx series supposes to drop soon which would in turn drop the price of the 69xx??
BF3 is the reason why I've jumped on Sandy Bridge from my old Q9650. I am sticking with the card I have until BF3 releases. That is when I will be getting whatever card will max out that badboy.
