stop hating on the h70 , hyper 212+ is a cheap piece of rubbish .. thats a waste of money . The base isnt even flat on those things , makes me wonder how anyone gets good temps at all with such an uneven surface ? may look cool , thats about it .

Lap the base of the h70 until its smooth , use some mx2 or ic diamond paste and it will blow any of those coolers to smitherines .

i guarentee it .

I get 62c 100% load @ 4.2ghz / 1.408v / HT and turbo enabled .. on my i7 870 using a lapped h50 .

I would never downgrade to an aircooler , all it takes is abit of effort to unleash the beast within those hydro coolers .. they are crap out of the box i admit , corsair never went to those extra lengths to lap the base for us , or supply us with semi decent thermal paste instead of that horrid shin etsu pad it comes with .. rubbish .

and yes that run was done in cool ambients , but still impressive for a lightly modified h50 ..
1. it gets good temps because its not rubbish like you say it is, and its not that bumpy. 2. it gets good temps because of the heatpipes directly contacting the CPU. 3. if you apply the TIM correctly, it works phenominally. I have one. Its a GREAT cooler. Not just looks good, but works better than it looks.

Ah, so you have Ripjaws. The D14 is compatible with Ripjaws:

The Silver Arrow is 3dB quieter, and under 1c better cooler, and usually cheaper. But Ripjaws will push the front TY-140 higher, and I don't think the 690 II has room for that.

Normally I recommend the SA because of its two PWM fans. You could add a 120mm pwm fan in front and put a single TY-140 in the center.

But those are the two best heatsinks. Waiting for more reviews on the Pt Genesis and the Scythe four-fan humongotron.

If you want to spend:
30-ish - Hyper 212
50-ish - Thermaltake Frio
80+ - Pretty much a tie between the D14 and the Silver Arrow, but the Silver Arrow looks way cooler imo. I have the H50, and while it's nice, when I consider the fact that I got it for 80, compared to what I know now about the power of the D14 and the Silver Arrow, I kind of regret my choice.

Same with the H70, great cooler, but there is no doubt that it can't hold a candle to the D14/Silver Arrow.

Oh and the parts for the Antec water coolers are basically made from the same company that makes Corsair's stuff, so the same applies to them.
