As for folding, I'll sign up today, I've always just been wary of heat problems if I let that run when I wasn't home. My room can get warm when I leave my comp on and the door closed.
Awesome thanks Motive I really appreciate you folding, it hurts me a little bit everytime I see uber hardware and know that 99% of the time it is sitting idle. Heat certainly is an issue but just do what you can, that's all anybody can ask. Especially during the winter you should be able to fold most of the time though, which will be great because you do have what is practically a supercomputer, and it would be nice to win this Chimp Competition for OCN but I'm really in it for the long term research and I hope that you will be too.

Akwrath folding refers to folding proteins to simulate the types of transformations that proteins go under when they change (this is about as technical as I can get because I'm no expert) like for example when they change during diseases like Alzheimer's or cancer. That is about as in depth as I can get but the big picture is that we are providing the computer power needed for scientists at Stanford and around the world to have the data needed to further research for all kinds of diseases. There is more information available on the Stanford website, but it's all a little over my head, and some basic info here in the chimp challenge thread. A big distinction that is sometimes confused is that folding is not the cure for cancer, i.e. there won't be an answer that we find, but it is the information that scientists need to make advancements along the road to cures for diseases such as cancer, and the sooner and more power we dedicate to that cause the sooner mankind as a whole can be rid of it.

I'm folding right now, although it only detects one gpu. Veird.

You know how in the guide it had you add a slot so that it folds on both the CPU and GPU? I think you have to add another slot for the second GPU. I'm not positive so if that doesn't work then I would post either in the guide or make a new thread in the folding section if you think you need to. I can guarantee that you will have plenty of people willing to help, folders will salivate at the chance to get all your hardware folding

You just have the two 580s in your rig right? I saw someone else mentioned a 285 and I think there may be some extra setup involved in getting a non fermi to work with a fermi, but like I said you will have plenty of people willing to help.

Sweet! sounds interesting. I am going to run a 3dmark 06 and pcmark vantage benchmark on my current 285 so i can see how well it will score when i run my 580
