Mid Chimpin Check-up - Page 2

My 2 machines are doing good. I just switched my Mac tower over to XP on boot camp because I can kick out more PPD compared to XP in a VM (Fusion). I should kick out some serious points in a couple days with -bigadv enabled on my dual 2.8ghz quad cores in that rig.

Lost my GTX 260 earlier today (fan at 100 percent, 104c temp, yikes) until I can work out the fan issues. Other then that everything is going fine. i7 860 @ 4.0ghz pulling 24k PPD on SMP = Win

Running a 2600K here, I had to wait on a mobo/ram so I was already 12 hours late starting the CC so I did a quick 4Ghz OC. Been running solid, get about 19-20k PPD if I let it sit and don't touch it. Get anywhere from 15-17k while surfing the web/streaming shows. Temps are decent, getting 58C on the highest core. Getting 15-17K on the 570 but it stays 78-80C all the time. =\\

Still unable to get vmware 3.0 installed because of vmware 3.1.3 not uninstalling, so no bigadv for me
At least I have my 5850 and my 1090t on smp

P4 HT@3GHz is chugging away@46c with an H50 w/stock fan(top secret socket 478 mounting technique).

AGP HD2600pro on the same rig is kicking the P4's face in.

1100T@4GHz stays at 46c

Haven't been able to successfully fold on my 5870s as they only go to ~25% and causes reboot after 10 min.

My poor mac mini is chugging away.

Protip: To reduce CPU temp, remove the optical drive that hasn't worked in a year

Thread Starter
Seems up and down for everyone. Good to see everyone is trying to kill their laptop for that extra bit of PPD like I am.

I am a bit of a heat Nazi, I don't think I could ever switch back to air cooling from water. Those high temperatures just scare me. I was getting scared when I was Intel burn testing at 3.8 (before my old RAM crapped out...) and my CPU was just barely hitting 60C.

I am tempted to start my CPU client manually so I can do bigadv. Seems to give a significant boost PPD. I wish tracker would allow me to turn it on without an 8 logical core processor -.-

For those of you with laptops (not sure if this works with Macs), try flipping it upside down and elevating it on a book. Seems to keep mine in reasonable temperature ranges. Mine normally kills itself playing Diablo 2... just wish I could keep it flipped upside while I was using it
