Ocz zx 1000w

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a new power supply. Preferably one with an 80 Plus Gold rating, and enough wattage to facilitate future upgrades.

From what I've read, OCZ is a great PSU manufacturer. Newegg currently has a deal on the OCZ ZX series, and this one stood out to me:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341045

I've been able to find reviews for the 850W and the 1250W, but not for that particular model. It seems like a good deal, but I want to be sure before I pull the trigger. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Will likely do SLI down the road utilizing high-end video cards. That, and a fair bit of overclocking on my CPU.

I know 850W are usually recommended, even with SLI. Would an AX850 be recommended over most 1000W PSU's out there?

IIRC a quality 850w is more than enough for 580sli.

An 850w (such as the AX850) would definitely be more than enough, even for GTX580 SLI. I cannot comment on the quality of OCZ units, as I've understood them to be "meh" at best. It might have changed recently though, I don't know.

The AX850 is a solid unit though. And it would be recommended to only buy the PSU that you NEED, to run your system. There's no reason to buy say a 1500w PSU (just an example), if you're only going to be using 550w from it.

I have one of the Z1000W OCZ power supplies and it's an OK power supply. Mine does squeal under heavy load though but i don't think its bad, just gets annoying at times.

OCZ ZX1000 is not a bad deal if you're looking for a 1000W modular 80 plus gold power supply. It should be the same design (OEM is Great Wall) used in the other ZX models and the Sparkle Gold PSUs, among others. Ripple is good, but voltage regulation and internal component choices are kind of meh. There are certainly better units out there.

If you don't need something modular, I'd take the Seasonic SS-850HT (S12D) for $125:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151100

It's the platform (M12D is pretty much just the modular version) used in the units reviewed below. It's a little better than the TX850 V2 and XFX Core 850W (which are both the same internally):
