Questions on updating firmware on a Dell Perc 5/i

Thread Starter
I currently have a Dell Perc 5/i that I bought from eBay which I want to upgrade the firmware on. I have two questions:

1. I've heard that there were two different versions of the Perc 5/i, each needing a different firmware? If so, how can I tell which one I have and which specific firmware I need?

2. Since I have Server 2008 R2 on this, I cannot use the in-windows firmware upgrader as it fails with the message that my system config is not compatible. On the Dell website, I noticed that there is a floppy option to use. I do not have a floppy drive. What other options can I use to install the new firmware? (USB stick maybe?)

3. Other than backing up the firmware, what other precautions should I take?

Thanks in advance guys.

I ended up solving the issue by just using the LSI firmware.

I used the LSI Windows version of their updater software under 2008 R2 with the Dell firmware. Had to alter a few of the config files to get it to work (was a while back so I can't remember the exact steps I'm afraid) but it wasn't complicated.
