EasyTune6 and CPU-Z reporting different speeds

Thread Starter
My gigabyte board came with easy tune 6, and according to ET6, my cpu clock speed is jumping .25 mhz to 5 mhz @ 4036mhz. Is this a clue to it not being a stable OC? Again im running a gigabyte 890FXA-ud5 with a AMD phenom II X4 955 BE overclocked to 4.00ghz. CPU-Z is showing a .1mhz jump only and its showing a difference of 9mhz @4027mhz when compared to easytune 6.

Basically,

CPU-Z shows - 4027.1mhz +/- .2 mhz

EasyTune 6 shows 4036.8mhz +/- 0.25 - 5mhz

so whats the deal here? Why are these programs both showing different numbers? My HT link and FSB are also jumping around a bit.

Well you're CPU frequency is calculated by multiplying the FSB with the CPU Multiplier. So if the FSB varies then your CPU frequency will vary(HT Link also uses FSB so same thing applies). And if you open two instances of CPU-Z and monitor them for a while you'll see that they won't show the same number 100% of the time.

Not really sure if this is also the case for the difference between ET6 and CPU-Z, but it could be.

You've run prime95 for about 4-8 hours to test for system stability right? If yes, then i don't think you should worry about it, it's only software monitoring after all smile.gif
