Single HD5970: should work as crossfire?

Hi all, I'm new to here and this is my first post.

I have single HD5970, works pretty good.

FPS shows on Crysis2 - 76, Black OPS - 66, Portal2 - 300 in 1024x768.

But I have notice that one of the GPU core seems like not working at all.

Checked on GPU-Z, MSI Afterburner, FluidMark, none of them shows both core is functioning.

Think it was used to both working, could be the driver update problem? Im using CCC 11.4 for now.

As I heard, for the single 5970 crossfire would be all the time automatically turned on, actually I do not have control for that on CCC menu.

Anyone knows anything about it?

It is weird, I have seen people say how they had to check the crossfire box somewhere in their CCC, but I think it depends on the drivers. I am using 10.3 and I don't even have the option to enable/disable cf.
