ASUS M4A79XTD EVO + Phenom II 555 - Problems booting - Page 2

I know ASUS sends a connector to connect your power, reset switch hard drive activity and such. Check to see that it is connected fully and that they are all plugged into the correct spot. sometimes, when I'm cleaning, mine moves and has issues booting. it doesn't connect very firmly and can come loose. It's called the ASUS Q-connector.

The fans spin but nothing else shows. I haven't used this computer in awhile. The last time I thought I fixed it by wrapping the backplate with electrical tape but it didn't.

I just E-mailed them for the warranty and they told me to call em which I thought was weird.

Thanks, but I did not used the quick connector and I made sure those case wires were put into the correct pins.

I have a question about RMAing a motherboard. It says that I do not need to include retention mechanisms or brackets. Does that mean I can keep the AM3 bracket and back plate?

On the RMA E-mail it says,
"Do not include any accessories, including but not limited to and will not be returned / replaced. Customers will be responsible for shipping fee if they are requesting items to be returned.

- user manuals, software, I/O shields, retention mechanisms / brackets, or original box

- Non-ASUS products: CPU, memory, after-market heat sink / fans

Exceptions:

- VGA Cards must be returned with the original ASUS heat sink otherwise will be considered physical damage

- P5 series motherboards must include the original CPU socket cover or covering to protect the pins during transit

- A8N SLI Series must include the EZ Selector Card if you are only using 1 VGA card with product.

- user manuals, software, I/O shields, retention mechanisms / brackets, or original box

- Non-ASUS products: CPU, memory, after-market heat sink / fans"

sounds like they just want the board. Do not send them anything, they are not going to send back to you. Otherwise you will have to buy it or pay for shipping, for them to send it to you.

Yeah, you don't email them for a warranty, they have an online RMA system that you can go through or they'll ask you to do it through the phone. Anyway, I left the AM3 Retention Clip and the Backplate on. It's still there now as I don't see why they would take it off but you can if you want to considering the instructions say to. Might want to try calling their Customer Support for a prepaid Shipping Label while you are at it. Also, if you still want to try attempt at troubleshooting the board before you send it in, have you tried to breadboard it on a flat surface? Pop out the CPU turn the board on and off, then pop the CPU back in without the heatsink+fan and see if you get it to post. If you do, it might just not like the way you are putting the heatsink on like mine. Or it could just be broken and requires being sent in..

I want to see a shot of the board hooked up. Maybe we can spot something!

Oh my god. I have this same board, and I'm dying. I'm at my wits end. Seriously, this has been the most frustrating 4.5 months of my entire life. Spent $650 on parts, and so far it's been only a paperweight. I'm even frustrated right now, because I know I have to explain everything all over again....I've written this story across so many forum boards....here we go again....

Bought all the parts. Same board as you. Athlon II X4 640. 650 w psu. Samsung HD. Pretty basic stuff.

Worked fine for three days. Perfectly, like a dream. Then it hung once during a video render. Complete hang. Power was cut to the mouse and keyboard, and all other USB devices. The screen froze, showing just the last image it had displayed. Nothing else happens. Fans spin as normal. Just...total hang freeze.

So this began happening during all video renders, all games, etc. Browsing in Chrome is fine, iTunes is fine...just gaming or rendering or Prime95, which would hang the PC between 0 and 20 seconds.

So I sent back the ram, because one of the sticks was failing memtest anyway, and I thought that'd solve it. New ram came back...fixed nothing. EXCEPT with the new ram, it started not booting. This MIGHT be a coincidence, and maybe the new ram didn't actually cause it, but the first time I booted with the new ram, it wouldn't boot, and instead gave me POST beeps. 2 beeps, then pause, then 5 beeps. Looked in the manual. Doesn't say what that means. Called Asus. They couldn't tell me. Google'd. Nowhere on this planet earth does anyone know what the beeping means.

Anyway, you CAN get past the beeping by hitting the reset switch. Then it'll boot just fine like normal. Booting "cold" will get you to the beeping (with nothing on the screen at all). Booting "warm" (by hitting reset while it's beeping) will boot just fine. Again, this beeping started with the new ram.

So now I'm hanging AND not booting properly on the first try anymore.

Sent back the CPU, because it was hanging during Prime95 so I reasoned CPU made sense. Fixed the hanging for three days. Beeping continued. Then the hanging came back on the third day.

Bought a new PSU to be sure. Fixed nothing.

Just recently, RMA'd the M4a79XTD evo. It came back on Monday. I spent $10 sending it in, those bastards. The replacement board (not sure if it's the same one I sent in...I'll have to check the serial numbers...they didn't even tell me what happened. as far as I know, maybe they just sent it right back). the replacement board ALSO solved the hanging for three days. Beeping continued. Then, TODAY, it hung again. And now it's hanging during almost everything that's more intensive than web browsing.

I'm so mad. It's been MONTH. Almost 5. I wanted it done by the end of winter. Now I just want to be able to use it before the beginning of SUMMER. That's crazy.

Drivers are updated. So is BIOS. GPU is out, because it hangs during Prime95, which doesn't touch GPU (so I'm told). Hard drive should be fine...symptoms don't match.

So I sent in the board, they send it back, STILL DOESN'T WORK. Where the hell do I go from here? How do I end this nightmare? Send it back AGAIN? Why should I have to do that? That's so stupid. If I yell at them enough can they just upgrade me to a better board? They've put me through so much hell.

So yeah....that's me, haha.
