changing from one radeon card to another

Thread Starter
hey guys, I'm planning to upgrade my ATI 5770 vapor -x (sapphire) to another radeon card, maybe the 6950 or 6970(unknown brand yet). My question is, will I have to uninstall the old drivers and reinstall new ones? Or, since its still a Radeon card, and Im guessing using the same radeon drivers, can I just switch it without having to mess with my system?

And, will switching manufactureres(from sapphire to say, power color) require me to change drivers?

Thanks, appreciate the help!

No,

Since it's the same make of card (ATI) you'll not need to worry about it, just install the latest catalyst drivers and you'll be golden

Probably wouldn't even need to do that, unless his current driver doesn't support the card he's switching to.

I'm assuming he's not got the latest drivers.

Either way it wouldn't really matter.

If you are not using latest drivers (11.4), then I would recommend uninstalling and installing the latest. Otherwise, you will not have to do a thing (theoretically)

I had the 5770 and just upgraded to this 6970. I was using 10.4. I never updated to newer drivers simply because they only addressed issues with the 58XX and up cards.

The drivers would not work. I had to remove 10.4 and install 11.3. I now have 11.4.

Sooooo, no change if your running 11.3 or 11.4.
