Decent gaming rig for under $1000

Thread Starter
I'm looking to make a decent gaming rig for a friend with around a $900-$1000 budget Im not sure whether to go with an AMD or an Intel rig as he doesnt do much gaming (he plays a lot of WoW and League of legends)

Any suggestions, (because im australian i can only order parts from http://www.mwave.com.au)

Thanks

Heres what i could come up with AMD wise

Case: Haf 912
PSU: XFX 750watt
Mobo: Asrock 870 Extreme3
Ram: Gskill 8gb kit (2 x 4gb) 1600mhz
CPU: Amd Phenom x6 1100T
Graphics: EVGA gtx 460

if you have any suggestions on modifications for this, it would be great
Ive always been an AMD kinda person, so im kinda behind on intel cpus etc

Threw this together after looking through the site. What resolution is he gaming on? Or will he need a completely new monitor:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, 3.20GHz $146.00
ASUS M4A87TD EVO $126.20
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus Fan Cooler $35.99
MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II $283.70
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM $70.10
LG 22x DVD Burner, SATA, Black, OEM $29.99
Corsair TX-650 V2 650W $119.99
Kingston HyperX - Memory - 4 GB : 2 x 2 GB DDR3 1333 $65.40
Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced $119.99
Total: $998.36

The quad-core will be fine for gaming. The cooler is cheap but should give you significant overclocking headroom should you want it. The graphics card will last a while on all resolutions up to 1920 x 1200. 4GB of RAM will be sufficient.

If you wanted an Intel rig, it'll be more expensive, but you will probably see a performance increase, although you won't get an unlocked processor. Just swap out the CPU and motherboard for these:
Intel Core i5 2400 - 3.10GHz $208.30
ASUS P8P67 LGA 1155 $199.99
Everything else the same
Total: $1134.45

Personally, I think the AMD rig will be fine, and it'll stay within budget. You can always downgrade to a GTX 550 Ti or a GTX 460, but the 560 Ti will definitely last him a while.
