Cannot find soundcard after Driver Sweeper run

Thread Starter
Hey guys, a few days ago I ran Driver Sweeper cause I wanted to install the new 11.4 driver. This got me into a load of issues, however I have taken care of them now. However now I cannot find the soundcard! It shows my external X-Fi soundcard, but my onboard one (VIA, which I use for my microphone) is not listed.. Can anyone help me?

My motherboard is an Asrock Extreme3 890GX

EDIT: And when I try to install the driver anyway (somehow it is gone), it just says "Cannot find HD Audio" and shutdowns the installer

Does the onboard show up in Device Manager>Sound,video...., should be a SoundMAX HD Device I think.

Stop using driver sweeper from this point forward and use the uninstallers that come with the drivers. They will either be in control panel or wherever you installed the drivers themselves. Or just install new ones over the top. Hasn't given me any problems yet.

Device Manager > Scan for hardware changes

I figured out the problem. I had huge problems after I ran driver sweeper, which also resulted in that I got an error everytime I tried to install the new driver. It would say "Windows device does not support this operation" and "Status: Display Driver: Fail".
I noticed driver sweeper had messed with difxapi.dll in system32, and the current file was from 2006 afterwards. Got a mate to send me his from 2009, and boom the driver would install without any issues.

Anyway, during the trouble I also reset my bios, which caused this sound card issue. It wasnt showing in Device Manager, Darren, but luckily I just had to move it from auto to enabled in bios.

Thanks all. This was my bad

Don't listen to this guy. He doesn't know what he's talking about.

Its weird that Driver Sweeper messed up your soundcard... Just curios, are you sure you only checked ATI - Display and not anything else?
I've used Driver Sweeper for a couple of years now and it never messed up anything for me.

Nono, driver sweeper didnt touch my soundcard. It did however mess up the difxapi.dll file in system32 so I couldnt install my video card driver.
In the process of trying to fix that I also reset my bios, cause I got random BSoDs with atikmdag.sys errors, and was running out of options.. And that reset set "Onboard HD Audio" to auto, instead of enabled. And cause I have another soundcard installed it wasnt showing. So I enabled it and now it works.

Never ever using driver sweeper again though

Weird ... This shouldn't have happened. However, you shouldn't get like that from one small problem ... See what happens next time you upgrade your video card drivers. If you'll run into the same problem, then it may be something wrong with DS ... but at least you'll know how to fix it agian. If not, this was just an unfortunate event and DS doesn't have any fault.
