How hard is that?

Seriously...

OP linpacks only stress the FP part of the chip, as well as the ram. Prime blend would be the better option for stressing, however I still think there are better ways to stress test without full load.

I think you are the one not reading his post.... he said he wasnt stable and some kid told him to use avx like it was gonna help his stablity problem..... so what your saying about not understanding his problem makes no sense

They want him to use AVX because it will allow for greater stress on the CPU. Though I doubt Homefront is 1/3 as stressful as IBT, he should atleast be putting 100%, full load on it to test for stability. Hence the recommendation for the updated linpack..

OP, Have you run Prime on blend overnight? You need more then an hour or so to be sure. If you don't mind having to make adjustments every few days, then 1 hour is fine, but if you want a completely stable system that you don't have to screw around with you're going to have to run something for atleast 6 hours.

He said he was stable in LinX.

Stable in LinX.

But when he attempted to play Homefront he was not stable.

Not Stable in Homefront.

Using AVX will cause more stress to the cpu, however like many others I believe the FP part of the chip is not the weak point and does not need to be stressed for stability (since gaming typically doesn't use FP anyways).

Prime Blend is probably the best old school test method, however I like many others believe SB is best stability tested in normal daily tasks, such as gaming, and idle forum browsing.

People have been prime blend stable for hours, only to bsod at idle. Sandy Bridge is just different.

Why do you call everyone kid, old person?

Best stability test for SB is doing normal tasks both stressful and not (like browsing).

If the voltage is too low, 124 will pop. Your voltage is too low.

THIS Exactly, can be prime stable for 10 hours, let it idle for 10 mins and it will 124 on you.

I've had recent success running IBT/LinX w/AVX and using 75% of total RAM for 50 passes. So far if I was able to complete that, I am also able to pass 12H of Prime95 blend. I've also never crashed randomly, in games or anywhere else.

IMO 20 passes of IBT/LinX isn't enough. I've crashed at ~30 passes before and also crashed in games. 50 seems to be the sweet spot for me.

Also, are you using manual voltage or offset? I've needed more voltage than required [for 100% load] using offset voltage in order not to crash during idle or less than 100% load. I just use manual now.

B. this means you dont need avx to see if your system is stable.....

Linpack with AVX stresses the chip more than without and hence is better for testing stability. Is it the end all test? Of course not, it could just help explain why he gets BSOD after passing Linpack.
BTW For scientific computing doubling the FLOPS is HUGE. Just because you don't benefit from it doesn't mean nobody does.

i dont use any of those stress test anymore for stability just use them for temp test. i usually just play bc2 and rift to check for stability. i could be ibt and prime stable but bsod in playing games .
