Need help with Home Server

Thread Starter
Hey you guys. I need some assistance with my server. Here are my current specs:

- i7 940
- 12GB G Skill Ripjaws
- 6 TB Hard drive
- EVGA E758
- EVGA GTX580

I am currently running Windows Home server "Vail" (RC, not beta). I love WHS, but I am disappointed that Microsoft limited the RAM to 8GB. I use this for more than my server. It is my server, HTPC and light gaming rig. I have a few VM's for Windows 7, Ubuntu with Boxee, etc.

My issue is that since the host OS only supports 8GB ram, the clients will only be able to use a portion of that amount.

I like 2 features of WHS. Automatic backup of client connected PC's and remote website to stream content and remote desktop to server.

Is there any way for me to accomplish these two items with Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008?

Thanks.

Nope. I have the final version released on MSDN installed. It is the full retail client. I spoke with Microsoft. It is indeed limited to 8GB.

I thought 32-bit max was ~4GB. It's some kind byte limit of ...something-something (I'm not a math guy).

VAil is based on Server 2008-R2 and is 64 Bit only.

I decided that I am going to have Windows 7 Ultimate as the host and a VM of Home Server. That way, I can allocate 4GB of ram to that VM and still get all the features of both systems.

thanks.
