South Korean tech titan Samsung has decided to hype up its newest flagship Android smartphone some more so it announced that, by the end of April, there have been 3 million pre-orders made for it. The Galaxy S II is thus on the right path to become a best-seller like its predecessor.

Samsung expects the pre-order number to increase in the near future as the Android 2.3-running (and TouchWiz UI v4.0-enhanced) smartphone will expand its availability to about 120 countries worldwide (140 carriers signed up to sell it).

Seen below, the 116g Galaxy S II packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core chip, a 4.3-inch (800 x 480) Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen, 1GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of storage, a rear-facing 8 megapixel camera with LED flash capable of 1080p video recording, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, A-GPS, an accelerometer, a proximity sensor, a digital compass, an FM radio, HSDPA support, and an 1650 mAh battery.

This phone does have a 2MP front-facing camera, I guess they missed that.

Does anybody know what kind of processing differences are expected between the ARM and the Tegra 2?

Reminds me of a Samsung Toco.

I still want one. Only 13 more months until my contract is up

Samsung actually made several variants of the original Galaxy S to cater the US market. Depending on which carrier you purchased your Galaxy S from you may or may not have had a front-facing camera in your device. The only known US-based Galaxy S devices that carried the front camera were the international version (labeled as Samsung Galaxy S), Sprint's version (labeled as Samsung Epic 4G) and a future rereleased T-Mobile version (labeled as Samsung Galaxy S 4G). Verizon, AT&T, US Cellular and the original T-Mobile devices all had the front camera removed from their variants as well as several other downgrades. More info here

In the US: The Vibrant (TMo), Captivate (ATT), Fascinate (VZW), and Mesmerize (US Cell) all have the front cameras removed.

The Epic 4G (Sprint) and Galaxy S 4G (TMo) kept the cameras.
