Will my pc auto shut down when i cross the max temp ?

Thread Starter
Today I cleaned my cpu heatsink but I ran prime 95 before and after. So i let it run for about 5 mins while it was still (very) dusty and my 955 reached 63°. I always thought that the max temp was 62° and it would shut down when I crossed it. So now I cleaned my heatsink and the temps are back to normal. But is it normal that it didn't auto shut down or do the temps have to be higher than just 1° above the limit ?

Eh, Idk about you, but my Athlon X3 440 hit 67c and it still was running. Although 65c is as far as i'd let it go when i'm gaming. 66c and above and I stop.

Nope, the CPU will cut power when it hits 90C, that's the thermal shut-off point but you would be way over your CPU's designated temp's anyway.

90! That seems way to high. I've always wondered about this since my pump is running off a second PSU that's a little older. I'm afraid it may die sooner than later.

Sucks to know that the proc has to hit 90 before it shuts down. Is there any damage done like between 60 - 90?

I'm not sure about AMD but the Tcase specification for Intel processors is on the top side center of the integrated heat spreader. Equivalent Tjunction for the cores is ~100C although the chips start throttling around 95C.

My (stock) Thuban runs pretty cool, though. I don't think I've even seen it hit 60C with a crappy Cooler Master Hyper TX3 (Mini-Tower microATX case with barely any clearance for tower coolers).

Not really, if you was running it for 24 hours at 80C+ then it's performance may be reduced just a bit, only way your gonna degrage them fast is by 1.8V+++

Iv'e got my 1055T to 2.0V trying to hit 5.0GHz before, and it was having none of it, but it still works to 4.0GHz to this very day

Thats the points where silicon will start to take damage. teaching.gif though always good to keep it as low as possible

Nope, no damage at all, but you will get a higher chance of BSOD's when your over 55C-60C, you could probably run it at 65-70C 24/7 and it might just last 2 years, maybe longer. These chips are built to last 6 Years + on stock settings, you would of upgraded by the time it dies anyway thumb.gif
