212 Hyper CoolerMaster +.

YEAH! Just bought the beast. Now i am completely empty in pocket the money i got for WD Black is gone. (Yes i know title is crazy).

So first thing first i am making this topic because i only have 3 days checking warranty so the quicker i am the better.

So any flaws should i look out for? and i checked all the stuff. Everything is fine, just i think one pair of Vibration absorbers is missing. ? ?... Edit: I just saw a video in which the thing which looks like a Swiss knife (In front of fan in pic) is in plastic cover. Mine was just in the bottom without cover :@ argh!. But the boxes seal was still there. (Not that it matters eh?)

Is that fine? I have everything above. Are there only two pieces like those? Yup they do make 4 if you break them in between in really small pieces.

First looks. Hell i am pretty surprised. Its bigger and heavier than i thought. The Thermal Compound is a joke ha . End part 1 .

Now i was thinking should i take the ExCal off and put it on 212? Mostly because i dont use the front inlet because no PWM. Its pretty loud at 4k rpm.

2nd: The stock on 212 says its 0 to 2k rpm. So putting ExCal should be good as it revs much higher?

3rd: Put the stock on front inlet or attach it as second fan? Though there aren't anymore pwm control on my mobo. There is a 3pin real close to heatsink area but putting it there would make it run on full rpm. So should i take it off and put it away?

Now its gonna be long long night. Have to watch some basic videos to install this thing. I am pretty lost init.

part 1,
it should come with 1 fan installed as push
(using 2 plastic brackets, 4 screws, 4 dampening pads on the fan over the screws)

the tim that comes with the 212+ is no joke, its as good or better than as5

part 2,
at lowest fan speed setting it should be around 800 rpm, highest iv seen mine hit was 1850 (at 75% speed)

the blademaster fan is about 80cfm and very quiet
probably much better than your other fan

part 3,
use the other fan as inlet, will be better than p/p with mismatched fans

good luck with the install
you may will to remove the board, since your case doesnt have access to the underside of the cpu
post #3 of 23
What ffejrxx said. He nailed things right on the head.

As for the vibration pads, one set is already installed on the fan it comes with. If for some reason the second set is missing just cut the ones on the installed fan in half and use them on the second fan. I did that with mine so I could save the extras for other things.

Your 212+ came with the plastic fan clips. Those are nice.

Have had my 212+ for about a year. It's cooling an OC'd 930 at 3.5Ghz. Temps hover between 45C and 55C under load. I took the 120mm fan off my beloved Tuniq 120 (old LGA 775 cooler) and set it up in a push/pull configuration on the 212+. Very happy with the product. Will probably replace it with a Tuniq Extreme here soon because I can.

PROS

Surface area, heat transfer, cost, push/pull ready.

CONS

Overly complicated securing mechanism. Base loves to slide around on the processor head when Arctic Silver is applied - Gotta secure it pretty quickly or things will get messy.

I don't understand how you can call that complicated. One of the easiest mounts I've run across. And mine hardly moves at all, but then I use a good TIM like MX-2 instead of AS-5.

I am still learning to install it :/. Dont wanna take it off again and again.

btw maybe this is a joke or something but when my Excalibur runs, it shows 4k+ rpm in All software monitoring, but the specs say it runs till 2000. And secondly How is BladeMaster better than Excalibur. lol?

rpm is useless
look at the cfm and static pressure

The RPM for both are the same 600-2000 rpms. The Excal shows slightly higher CFM up to 85.6 compared to the 76.8 of the BladeMaster. But the BladeMaster has more static pressure of 0.40 – 3.90 mmH2O compared to the Excal's 0.75 - 3.53 mmH2O. It's the Static Pressure that makes the difference forcing the air through the fins. That is due to the larger blades on the BladeMaster.

If your reading 4,000 rpm's then your sensors are defective or mis-calibrated as there is no way an Excal can rotate at 4,000 rpms.

I just installed this cooler a week ago myself and it's easy as hell. The newer revs seem to all come with the plastic clips & they're pre-installed with the sound absorbing material already attached to make it even easier. There's a 2nd set of clips & pads for a 2nd fan if you want the p/p setup (that's what the extras are).

I will agree though, the heatsink loves to slide around once the TIM is applied. secure the 2 diaganal screws ASAP once you've layed the TIM on the CPU and pressed the heatsink down onto it or it will start to slide around. Likely due just to it's size.

Also RPMs will range from 600-2000 like Smurf stated. I've only hit 2k rpms at 100% load though. It's also very quiet even at full load where you hear just a pretty muted hum. 1500 and lower it's near silent.

But the CM TIM is just as good as AS5 huh? Good to know. I was going to replace that stuff with some AS5 once I got some because I slathered the stuff on quite messily.
