Office PC setup 5pcs

Thread Starter
Hey guys, latest client needs a new medical office Pc system as their p4 are too dated to run new software.

I was thinking of getting an i5 2500 for the server and i3s for reception (1+4) should I go this route or AMD? what is the price difference?

They need 4GB of RAM I don't even want to put less because they all will run win7 64.

Any build lists or ideas are appreciated. If I go i3/i5 route I will use h67 boards as they are just office PCs.

Wd blues are preferred... Maybe 1+1 wd blacks for storage and backup

What kind of work will they be doing?

Receptionist would probably be fine with lower-cost AMD dual-core build.

You don't need 4GB RAM just because you are running a 64-bit OS.

If there is a server involved..... Do they require 24/7/365 support? Is downtime of more than a few hours acceptable? What is the cost per hour of downtime during business hours?
Once again...

For HDDs Id look at the Samsung F3s (and alot of people will agree with me)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152185

They tend to get down to $55 a piece for a 1 tb drive and perform just as well if not better than wd blacks.

edit: and for the server computer Id look at doing a RAID 1 setup

edit 2: it also might be worthwhile to use one of the old p4's as a data/image backup PC for the different machines.

use Pentium dual-core sandy bridges for the reception and a quad for the server

I would like 4GB of ram because I think their new software will pretty memory intense (specs ask for 4GB)

It's some GE software that records all work and processes patients.

It's a local server, downtime is not acceptable during business hours other than that regular maintenance should be fine.

How much difference is there between AMD dual cores and the new i3 (relating to price as well)

What will be running on the server?

You might be able to find large sets of RAM like 4x4GB or 3x4GB for less. You can then just split the kit across different systems.

Configuration as such..

3 Front Desk PCs for taking patients and making appointments using EMR / EHR software from GE.

1 Fax Station for incoming / outgoing faxing, scanning patient records, insurance cards etc... Hence the Fuji scanner and HP printer

1 "server" for processing word files, managing all workstation backups, day to day tasks.

For Hard Drives since the Lian Li case only takes 2.5" HDD I figure it is best to have one large HDD in the server doing regular backups of the stations over network.

1 250GB main drive for server to work on, 1 250GB backup drive (cloned windows for hot swap replacement) and a constant backups onto the 500GB drive.

Deff will swap out the 2x2kits for larger kits and just use that ram across all builds

Infact, I will probably add another 500GB to backup the original 500GB which will store all the backups. Backup of a backup is the best backup!!
