HDMI to 3.5mm?

Thread Starter
Is there such thing? I heard that the sound quality from the GPU sound card thingy is supposedly better than onboard sound.

Is there like HDMI to 3.5mm adapter or something like that. So I can get sounds from GPU.

No not really, you're going from a digital signal to analogue. You'd have to get some sort of converter box and for that kind of money you might as well get a sound card.

There should be an audio jack in your monitor.

doubtful since IIRC the gpu just forwards sound from the onboard through the GPU, so you are still using the onboard sound

You'd need a DAC for that.

Not true. I don't have onboard sound and if I switch to my GTX460 GPU HD Audio it works just fine. But the audio quality isn't comparable to my sound card lol

And like it was mentioned, you just connect the headphone jack to your monitor (if it has one) and it should work.

Audio only passes through the HDMI on your GPU.

Yes, but if it's (HDMI from GPU to monitor) already connected to your monitor which I assume has internal speakers, wouldn't connecting to the 3.5mm jack produce sound to whatever the source is (speakers/headphones)?

I haven't tried it myself because I have HD Audio disabled so it won't cause any problems with my sound card.

HDMI transmits sound in digital format, any speaker works with analogue, so to give any sound there must be a DAC (Digital Analog Converter) between speaker and source, when you connect HDMI to a tv you stop using the pc sound system to convert the digital signal and start using the tv dac to convert and later on stage amplify.
Personally I actually prefer to use the dac on my tv and a amp then my dx.
