Another question about HDTV,

Thread Starter
Now, I have got updated information that we only need 42 inch HDTV. The budget is now £400.

Only requirement is Freeview HD.

BUT, I went to Argos shop, I saw a HDTV priced at £320, I've guessed that I could buy it AND buy Humax HD-FOX T2 freeview box for £80, making it £400. From quite few reviews from websites, that freeview box is the best.

Any guesses?

I would suggest the LG 42LD450, it's selling for £ 350 on Amazon. .

I have this TV and it's very good for the price. It already includes Freeview, but I don't use it (still on analog cable), so I can't tell you if the Freeview tuner is good or not. I can tell you that the Analogue tuner is very good, changes channels fast, and you have a lot of options to fine tune the image to your liking (one of the first things I did was increase the image sharpness a bit, to 80, as the factory setting is a little bit low).

I can tell you the HD pictures are very good, since I've got a Media Center connected to it. The TV has quite a few modes, including Game Mode, which bypasses the image processing (which is being done one your computer or console anyway), therefore reducing lag. It's a great TV for gaming.

The remote control is great and the menus are very well organized and pretty too. The sound is great too, for a TV that has the speakers hidden (you can also customize the sound).

But anyway, since the price is £350, you can always buy a separate box if you're not satisfied with the Freeview. Or you can read the many reviews on Amazon, I'm sure some reviewers wrote about the Freeview tuner.

Cheers!

Hmmmm...

"Note: While we did not review the bigger 42-inch LG 42LD450 LCD television, there shouldn’t be any drastic difference in picture performance given nearly identical specifications."
I have read magazines disproving this jump to conclusions before. TV sets within the same range getting different results because the panel is not the same.

As to the blacks in the 42 inch model, I can say they look fine to me. But then again I'm no expert. The viewing angles are great. I just stood to the far left and right and didn't notice any change in picture quality, except in the blacks which become less black, but that is because of the backlight, which happens in most TV's, especially at this price.

All in all, as they say (bearing in mind though that they tested the 32 inch model), it's a great TV set for the money. They pay a lot of attention to detail. One of the things I like about LG is that the monitors and TV's have the ability to turn off the on/standby light (this TV actually let's you choose them separately - I have the "on" light off, and the "standby" light on.)

However, as the OP wanted HD Freview, from the article it appears the Freeview tuner doesn't work with HD.

Yes, HD gives you additional HD channels while normal freeview doesn't.

Cons doesn't seem too bad to me. Note I'm not looking for best quality 40-42" HDTV due to my budget.

Hmm, I've got a LG 42LD450 and it's pretty good...you can play divx etc off USB drivers etc. - my friend has the tosh and he reckons he has a better quality image. Sorry can't be of more use.

It's a shame LG don't use their IPS panels in the XXLH3000 series anymore - they were AWESOME for the price
