Going to Microcenter for an i7-950 soon!

So I'm going to be heading over to the Microcenter in St. Louis, MO soon to purchase an Intel i7-950 CPU for a new build. This isn't for me, this is for a friend that already has everything he needs to build this 1366 rig except for the CPU.

I know that there is only one stepping currently for the 950s and it is D0 with a spec code of SLBEN.

I was wondering if there are some common batch numbers that I should look for to get or to avoid? I won't be able to consult this forum about the batch numbers when I am actually at the store to purchase it so I was just hoping I could get a short list of the ones I should try to avoid at all costs.

I'm not going to be overclocking this build by much, if at all. But...I would still like to get one with a relatively low VID since it's going to be air-cooled with a Zalman CNPS9900A LED.

I know that Zalman cooler isn't that great, but I'm not the one deciding on the components of this rig as my friend has already bought everything except for the CPU.

Any help with picking out a decent chip would be greatly appreciated. I'd just rather not get it home and find out it needs an insane amount of voltage to run at stock or slightly overclocked. I need the Zalman CNPS9900A to keep it cool.

Thanks!!

Why not look in the for sale section here? You can get a nice low VID for cheaper than you could get at MC - they are going for $190 or lower shipped, I've seen them as low as $150 - 160

Well, I would do that if this were for myself. But it's not for me and my buddy wants a brand new retail CPU.

I was just hoping I could go with some sort of idea of what batch numbers are good, but I guess it will probably just be luck of the draw.

Edit: I know there's nothing I can do about this combination of components since they've all been purchased already, but I was also hoping I could get some input on this CPU/Motherboard/RAM combo before I start building:

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P Rev. 1.0
Intel i7-950
Patriot Viper Series PC3-12800 3x2GB

The RAM is the exact same as what I linked to except that we have 3 modules for triple channel instead of just 2 for dual channel.

Is there any reason why this RAM would cause any problems when paired with that motherboard/CPU or should it all run smoothly together?
