If its for a magazine usually all photographs are bitmap images at 300 dpi resolution edited with Photoshop. Pages are normally designed in InDesign/Quark if the fonts are imported and not embedded the fonts will be in vector format. InDesign is starting to become the most common because of all the other adobe support. Quark used to be the norm but some print shops still use it. If you design in InDesign the fonts have to be installed on the computer/included with the file or InDesign will highlight it pink and either replace the nonembedded fonts or cause issues while trying to print.
